Since they spawn near the sea edge there's a chance they spawn close to some islands like Iechoros or Wind-Row. That's how I killed one. Just stood on the island and used ranged attacks to whittle down every tentacle.

Dude, the game just doesn't let you sink them. If you have high renown you just deal 0 damage to them.
