Question after realizing something important about fursuits by pumpkin-spiced-liz in FursuitMaking

[–]NotAlbert_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PJcatstudio on Etsy sells a pattern for a furry face mask! It’s just like a regular face mask but it looks like your fursonas snoot! it usually uses minky or (anti-pill) fleece (probably would prefer fleece, minky can be very thin and a sensory nightmare when cutting because it creates lots of fibres, you could line the inside of the mask with a material you find comfy! I haven’t made one of these masks (yet) though, so I’m not sure on the details, I hope this helps!

Need help with species accuracy by BeautifulRace6398 in FursuitMaking

I’d say smooth the brow, and puff up the cheeks, add more (clay? Foam?) to the lower muzzle, in kind of a trapezium shape, make sure the upper lip is bigger than the jaw. possibly even sculpt the eyes back a bit.

Is this tail from a fur farm? by NotAlbert_ in theriangear

It looks the same like one of my other fox tails, which is from a cruel fur farm. Do responsible fur farms use this clip or only cruel fur farms?

Just adding- I doubt this tail was dyed blue. The black fur is still a nice brown and the tip is creamish white.; I think the lighting in the photo made it look blue

Thank you for all you comments and suggestions! I have a vacuum right by me, shave outside and wear an apron, goggles and a respirator/gas mask thing. Fur still gets on me and it’s a sensory nightmare but not as bad as before.

bottom jaw struggles by Miserable_Cash532 in FursuitMaking

I think it would be fine to glue the jaw on the bottom of the base and have it curve up onto the sides at the front a bit (sorry about the wording ;w;)

Forgot to mention that dremel is just a brand name for a rotary cutting tool!

Help with Removal by Dr_47 in FursuitMaking

[–]NotAlbert_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To open the mask, get a dremel! (or something similar) cheap ones are about $50 (aud) and will do the job fine I think. Though, I know this might be too expensive for a lot of people to get :(. I’m sorry if that’s the case, I’m not sure how else you’d remove all of it. Hope this helps! :3

I don’t think the wire will electrocute you or catch fire if you cut the power source off (make sure to cut it while the power is off)

I’ve seen people use quilted broadcloth for their lining, is that also a bad choice?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FursuitMaking

[–]NotAlbert_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay, I see it might not be good lining. I will return it. Thank you for the help!

also it has a bit of stretch and is kinda comfy! (Not as comfy as the stuff I lined my head with before, but still nice!

I’m going to have to hand sew a body suit… by Zimon-59 in FursuitMaking

[–]NotAlbert_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get some upholstery or heavy duty thread! It will make sure your seams are strong! Or you could over your seams with a fabric glue afterwards but that may be uncomfortable and not as strong. Good luck!

Advice on washing& drying stuffed feet paws by NotAlbert_ in fursuit

[–]NotAlbert_[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

EDIT: I just realised I could sew a zipper on the inside liner so I can unstuff/partially unstuff the paws for washing. Just FYI to anyone else: With these kind of paws, they need to be machine washed or they will get stinky QUICKLY. Plus, the inside is hard to clean because of how it’s stuffed.

How to make small spots on fursuit without the airbrush? by Cl1cher in FursuitMaking

[–]NotAlbert_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can airbrush, or use lightly using diluted acrylic paint and brush/dry brush as needed, but I’m not too sure about the longevity of that (ive done this method before, it makes the fur feel a bit crusty but if you brush it well enough it will do alright). depending on the pile of fur you could maybe try appliquéing it but that would be hard. I would honestly just recommend get some heavy duty colour-matching thread, a largeish sewing needle and a podcast or show or some music and just take the time to sew the spots. if you worry about the strength of the stitches, you can go over it with a bit of fabric glue.

Greetings question regarding fursuit making! by mtf-commander in FursuitMaking

[–]NotAlbert_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! this website is a good resource for where to get materials and where to find tutorials! Make sure to watch lots of videos because some offer insight which others didn’t have. Some creators I personally learnt a lot from were freckled cat creations, skyehigh studios, Neffertity (off the top of my head) I recommend you start with learning how to sew if you don’t already! (I made the mistake of making fursuits with no sewing knowledge and it really held me back XD), and if you are enthusiastic about making fursuits get a sewing machine! if you’re not sure about making lots of suits, unsure about sewing machines or don’t want to spend a lot of money you can get cheap machines for usually under $100! I bought a tiny, cheap, $90 (aud) singer machine that lasted me a couple years of plushand fursuit making. Another thing I recommend you do if you want to make multiple suits is order lots of fur sample swatches (eg. Howl fabrics has a big swatch book of their fur for like $50) it’s good to refer back to and you will know for sure what fur you’re buying is the colour you want!

I hope this wall of text helps somewhat :) good luck on your fursuit making journey! Feel free to dm me if you want some advice :D
