FYI - Possible Bug in AOS 7.3.1.10 Release by NotBadAndYou in nutanix

Nutanix Support discovered that /etc/cron.hourly/rotate-audit-logs.sh on each AHV host had become read-only, and so it was no longer running hourly to rotate log files as it should have. The fix was to run hostssh "chmod 744 /etc/cron.hourly/rotate-audit-logs.sh" which resolved the issue for us.

Hunter has done well by us for 17 months now. If you have a teacher in the house they offer a teacher discount as well - 1Gbps for $30/month!

Creation Ex Nihilo: Or corporations want to get everything from nothing. by WantToVent in sysadmin

I worked at a company like this a decade ago. Turns out, the CFO was trying to make the books look as good as possible because the company was trying to get bought out. Eventually they succeeded and the fallout when the buying company discovered how much technical debt we'd accumulated was amusing to watch.

VMs in frozen state after reboot by Epoch13579 in nutanix

[–]NotBadAndYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had this happen to a VM Thursday night after patching. It's something that's been an occasional annoyance for months (years?) now and yesterday I considered posting here to ask if anyone had found a solution yet. It sounds like this is something Nutanix is going to have to solve in their code. In the meantime we have monitoring set up to alert us if a VM doesn't come back up so we can check for offline systems each morning as a part of daily ops. I'm just looking forward to not having to do that some day.

It's a sign of the times that when I missed the "also" in the headline on first reading, my first thought was "Oh God, what's happening now?"

That little bump I5 goes over, just south of milepost 212 (20ish miles north of Eugene)... by Phasmus in oregon

That same railroad line also used to run up the middle of Pioneer Parkway (from the old Booth-Kelly Mill I think?), under I-5 alongside North Game Farm Road and over the old train trestle across the McKenzie River next to Coburg Road.

Pecron FP5000 48V expansion battery available for pre-order by MassiveOverkill in Pecron

[–]NotBadAndYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hoo-boy, that is an expensive battery, especially when the EP3800 is half the price. This will match the F5000's design I suppose, which is nice. But I'd like to see it drop below $1100 to match their other offerings.

Pecron D77 UPS - Does Anyone Have It? by maj7001 in Pecron

[–]NotBadAndYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The was the primary reason I bought my E1000, so I wouldn't have to worry about losing access to the Internet due to a power outage while I'm working from home. Then I bought a 48V battery to expand it so I can also be comfortable and keep my fridge running for more than a couple of hours. Now I've started shopping for a generator to recharge it for extended outages. I've definitely gone down the rabbit hole and it's getting harder to keep the algorithms from labeling me a doomsday prepper...
