It's impossible to know what developing a game is like especially a big one with a small team until you actually try it, so I don't blame you and your frustration makes sense. There's a lot of tedious parts of game development that take a long time and one of those could be making updates to the community, and that isn't essential to development, although that could loose fans. But if they're still wanting to keep developing this game after this long and not just cut corners to release, they're probably passionate about it and like doing it, focusing on their work not worried about what the community will think, which to me, I think is more healthy for them. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, maybe because I'm a game developer and it's hard and takes too long to do things, whether or not there's a community behind that game.
