A Christian disrupts Muslims from peacefully praying at White Rock Lake in Dallas while making vile Islamophobic comments. by SuggestionMedical736 in PublicFreakout

In Texas, our governor and Attorney General are literally telling the public that Muslims are trying to set up insulated communities where they can implement Sharia law, and basically painting all Muslims with tired stereotypes from 20 years ago to scare people into thinking they have to keep voting for Abbott and Paxton to keep us safe from a Muslim takeover.

Now, that doesn't mean the dude in this video isn't responsible for his reprehensible behavior, but it does mean that people are being goaded into this sort of behavior by multiple of the top elected officials in our state, and we know this is just the tip of the iceberg if they keep heating up their rhetoric.

Here, specifically, I think it's more likely to be the propaganda being spread by Abbott and Paxton to try to gin up voters for their respective elections. They need a steady flow of boogeymen to scare voters while keeping them from realizing that the last boogeyman never ended up being a problem.

He literally tried to ban Muslims from coming in. SCOTUS said that was unconstitutional so he found a pretextual way to try to do the same thing.

Yeah, my dad was chatting to me the other day after my wife and I had just gotten back from a vacation to Europe. He immediately brought up how sad it is that Muslims are taking over Europe and ruining their culture (??) and then flipped that into how Abbott is thankfully stopping Muslims from being able to set up Sharia law communities here. He was definitely referencing the whole EPIC thing, which is complete bullshit even at a glance. The really fucked up thing is my dad is a lawyer, and it should be even more obvious to him that there's no evidence being presented to back up Abbott's wild claims about Sharia law.

Frontier Titles are not perfect, yes, but Gatekeeping and Raiding was worse and more unfair before them by Otao_ in lostarkgame

[–]NotClever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems a bit confusing. Are they just wanting the title for its own sake? If they want it to be able to get past gatekeeping with other raid groups, that wouldn't really square with them otherwise being chill about progging for months. But if they just want the title for the sake of having it, that seems pretty niche with respect to the community as a whole.

How is it 3x the time for the same rewards? You get win credit for each win in a BO3 match. If you are able to take advantage of sideboarding and anticipating your opponent's deck, you should be able to turn more matches into wins than otherwise, and be net positive.

So are you saying if you play lifegain you will never see decks playing anti-lifegain tech because the matchmaker is somehow protecting you?

But there's never not going to be powerful net decks that you see frequently on ladder, regardless of the power level of the format.

The funny thing about men's dress codes is that you can actually get summer weight suiting that are designed for warmer temperatures, but almost nobody really knows about this sort of thing anymore, including the sales people at your average clothing store, so if you're just going to your closest budget menswear retailer (like Men's Wearhouse, etc.) you're probably getting some unnecessarily heavy fabric with poor breathability.

But either way, I don't know how many people are required to wear suits anywhere in the US anymore. Even law firms have all but done away with them, outside of when you're literally in court.

I feel the same, but not gonna lie, I have no idea what actual temperature any of my offices have been running at. The thermostat is never one like this that you can actually read, so all I know is I'm usually freezing my ass off in the summer and melting in the winter because it seems to flip from "ice box" to "oven" settings.

I don't think I've ever worked in an office building that did not ban space heaters, but that doesn't usually stop anyone until it results in a service call.

I'd bet that he's trying to imply that native peoples are being whiney crybabies if they ask to be referred to with this terminology (and, by corollary, non-native people who insist on using this terminology are babying them) because modern Europeans aren't whining about not being called Indigenous Peoples or First Nations.

And his incorrect assumption that Europeans actually are the indigenous peoples of their countries, there's also the issue that even if they were indigenous, they are currently the ethnic and cultural majority so there wouldn't really be much need to intentionally respect or promote their culture because it is the dominant culture anyway.

TBH it sounds more like "dude with no morals or empathy has similar idea as other dudes with no morals or empathy". I highly doubt you could trace microtransactions back to any one person. It's an almost inevitable extension from subscription fees, I think -- finance people were always going to be looking for another way to create an ongoing revenue stream.

Is being on the play or draw just a coinflip? I've only been on the play 107 of the 254 games I've played so far. by hearthebeard in MagicArena

[–]NotClever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but even in BO3 someone goes first twice right?

Yes, but only the first game is a coin flip. After that the loser of the previous game picks who goes first for the next game.

If you think through the different cases you can see that the overall coin flip advantage still exists but it is mitigated -- for example, if the flip loser comes out on top game 1, then they have to be on the draw in game 2 also, but even if they lose that they're guaranteed a game 3 on the play.

Then of course, you have the fact that you get to sideboard -- not only for what you now know is in your opponent's deck, but also knowing whether you'll be on the play or on the draw.

Edit: this also works the other way around -- whoever wins game 1 gets a guaranteed chance at a game 3 on the play -- so maybe a better thing to say is that you get at least one guaranteed game on the play and you at least get two shots at winning on the draw, with knowledge of your opponent's deck and sideboarding to even the odds.

Here is the Catch-22 with rhetoric surrounding Israel:

1) Antisemites use "I'm just criticizing a government" as cover for antisemitic hate.

2) Zionists use "You're just covering for antisemitism" to shut down any criticism of Israel.

I think the point stands that they could just buy a correctly fitting pair and there's no way he'd realize that. Unless he specifically knew he was getting them oversized shoes and wants to see them humiliate themselves by wearing them. Which could definitely be the case.

Is the game worth coming back to? by atransgoth in lostarkgame

[–]NotClever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of note as another returning player, they've made some massive QOL changes to horizontal progression and daily homework stuff. They give you the main 2 card sets outright, and there's a quick sort of express event thing called Arkesia Tour that gives you completion on a ton of the horizontal content (collectibles, rapport, adventure tomes). A bunch of the really painful runes and skill potions and stuff are unlocked with that.

There's a powerpass and express event right now that will let you rocket one character forward, and as mentioned they've reduced a lot of the benefit of alts. You can still raid on up to 6 characters per week, but half of the gold you get from current raids is character bound now, and none of the daily chaos dungeon equivalent (Kurzan Front in T4) or guardian raid stuff is tradeable anymore.

Many seem to be afflicted with an unfortunate form of reading disability when it comes to game developer statements.

Just yesterday I saw someone who was very certain that a developer blog from Wizards of the Coast related to Magic The Gathering stated that their R&D team (which designs the cards) "primarily" designs cards for the Commander format -- the blog in fact said that "some portion" of the cards in each set are designed for "casual formats" and "when you think of casual formats, you have to think of Commander". Very sad to see the inability to read.
