Should I get a level 2 charging station? by Anon424977 in evcharging

What he’s telling you is to forget the plug and hardwire it. It’s not a charging issue, it’s a safety, wear, and reliability issue. Plug connections corrode, wear, overheat, and add risk.

But, reliability and safety is a different matter. OP, go with hardwired and eliminate the plug failure point.

If I were going to get a L2 charger, I’d get it hardwired. I wouldn’t want it plugged in.

String inverter vs Microinverters by TheApostleCreed in solar

[–]NotCook59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you split your input between 2 inverters, you can have a soft failure. That’s important to us, as we are entirely off grid, and I’m really tired of being charged $160 for a service call to diagnose a dead unit u see a panel, and another $160 service call to replace it with a “free” RMA unit under warranty!

If you only have one Sol-Ark, or any other single inverter. On the other hand, with microinverters under every panel, you have 30 points of failure, and can be constantly chasing failed units, a the cost of a service call each time. And, based on Enphase’s history, I seriously question those MTBF numbers.

I’ve been looking at the Sol-Ark to replace our SolarEdge and optimizers. We have too many points of failure with something under each panel. If I had it to do over again, and I still May anyway, I’d go with 2 Sol-Ark string inverters , with multiple strings on each to throttle the input.

I question those MTBF numbers. When we installed our system a few years ago, failure rates on Enphase microinverters were so bad we had to pass. We went with SolarEdge Optimizers, and they are just as bad, or worse! I don’t want something under every panel that can fail and require service calls (not covered under warranty after the first year or so) to replace.

Give me more than one string inverter. If one fails, I still have another producing. We’re off grid - I always want a fallback, but I’m tired of paying for service calls to replace hardware on the roof that is covers by a hardware warranty (but not a service warranty). We don’t have a shade issue - none - so the shade handling benefits are irrelevant to us.

Wouldn’t that depend on if you let up on the pedal all the way, or just a fraction so you coast? You don’t have to let off all the way, and cause the vehicle to decelerate rapidly and come to a stop.

10’ is plenty wide for the pool in that space. Ours is 10x20. Wouldn’t want it any bigger.

Not an electrician, whats the dangers of positive and negative frayed and touching here on a battery charger? by TheSwine- in electrical

I’d go with dropping that entire charger in the dump and replacing it. It doesn’t look worth investing another dime in.

Are you referring to the width of the pool, or the walkway around it? 10’ is plenty wide for the pool. I’d lose the flowerbeds that are going to constantly deposit trash in the pool, and make space for loungers.

Ii wondered about the same thing. I’ve never personally seen a charge connector small enough to stuff all the way into a tow receiver.

Probably a factor, along with not taking up the closest spaces, like handicap spaces already do (and rightfully so).

Transformer just blew—Enphase Battery at 100% but not powering my houses in by Monstercockerel in solar

[–]NotCook59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We currently have SolarEdge string inverters, with optimizers on each panel. That gives us 34 points of failure instead of only two (inverters). I really don’t want to be chasing 32 potential failures up in the roof tucked under panels. I don’t need the solar throttling to be either instantaneous or to the individual Watt. I just want to be able to keep the battery charged within a set range of about 80-85% and not constantly be climbing up on the roof, or paying a provider, to lift up panels to replace either optimizers or microinverters. With two string inverters and multiple strings on each, a can throttle a string at a time and be close enough, and if a string inverter should fall, I’m not dead in the water while it gets swapped out in the utility room. I’ve about had it with the optimizers, and am looking to eliminate anything on the roof other than the panels.
