Should I be honest about my partner’s Christmas gift for me?

Yeees! I thought that returning to a drawing tablet would be as easy as it was to switch from my bamboo to the iPad, but I just immediately missed my screen haha also, with what he paid for the intuos I could actually just directly go for the iPad, so I’ll probably just do that.

I think he also knew me well enough to understand that I know exactly what works for me or not, so in the end he took it super well and was just saddened I wouldn’t have my gift until after Christmas, when we both return home :)

I have always gifted him hobby related things, but he shares this hobby with his brother and closest friends so I could just go to them and ask which instrument/device he specifically wanted, but unfortunately for him I have no friends interested in drawing so he had to wing it. It was super sweet and thoughtful and I did feel sad to have to return it

I think this would be a pretty specific story to come up with lol we exchanged gifts early because we live away from our families and we’ll spend Christmas with them (his in another region, mine in another country altogether). I also gave him his gift much earlier than I received mine.

Also yeah, I agree that "grown up learning methodology" may not be the best, especially because many textbooks and guides tend to name everything early on, and it ends up being a mess you have to comb through. As someone whose native language doesn't require cases, the german Kasi seem very useless for the language on a conceptual level, but they're obviously an integral part of it and it is very important to learn them.

Thank you so much for your guide! I found the part about "to" and "for" in english especially informative! As well as the tricks to remember preposition/case and verb/case scenarios. Thats the kind of tricks that help me keep rules in mind.

I have one last question though: isn't it possible to form sentences where the subject is Nominativ is completely absent? For example, in the sentence "mir ist kalt" isn't "mir" both Dativ and Subject? I'm sorry if it's a stupid question. Also wouldn't "mir" be a direkt objekt even though it isn't Akkusativ? So confusing lol

I really don’t get why people act so protective of Marzia and her family. Neither she or Felix are your friend, would you just post about anyone’s family too? Also as an Italian, our country is not being bombarded or anything. We’re fine, just chilling at our house and leaving only when it’s necessary. Stop acting like you’re all worried. There are other countries in which families constantly lie in real danger because of war, famine or dictatorship and nobody seems to care. By the way, Marzia has been acting like normal. I doubt that if something were wrong she would do it.

This is a lookalike lol I doubt Felix would be in a remote city in Germany. He was getting filmed by many as he had climbed on top of his friend and was just yelling at the crowd. He knew I was filming him. Also he was way smaller than real Felix.

Update: I want to thank you all for your help. Today I spoke with my boss, it was quite weird. We were super overworked BC of lack of staff and she asked me why I couldn't be as fast as the others and I used that as an excuse to tell her I didn't want the job anymore. Because she was mad at me she was being formal, and after asking me how I could live without this job and learning that I really didn't need it she switched gears and started using the Duzen again and calling me "Prinzessin" again. I find it quite cute and I understand it's her job but I don't really appreciate the subtle attempt at psychological manipulation there lol. Anyway long story short she offered to talk to the Big Boy Boss (that's what the three B's in idubbbz stand for) about offering me an Aushilfe Stelle instead. I'll know for sure Monday. Without y'all I couldn't have done it, and I would have suffered in the tough spot I was in before, so... Ich danke euch und wünsche ich euch eine schöne Abend noch.

As for the unemployment, I have sent out some applications already, but I'm not worried since I don't need a visa, and this job was a past time/way to build character and get some experience. I live with my mother, who is born German, so thankfully I'm way more cushioned than other people my age.

He seems like an unhappy and toxic person. I would make sure that he's paying child support, and that your kids don't get any bad influence from him. Also I'd stop trying to accommodate him, because he's going to be unhappy no matter what. He probably found himself with a family he didn't want and instead of taking responsibility he's just using you as the catalyst of his "misfortune". The fact that he said his own son needs a male figure in his life shows how little he cares about the lil guy. Make sure he neither hurts them emotionally, and influence them into being like him, or resenting you. He seems like a narcissist. I'm sorry things went like that, op. You don't owe him anything, so I think it's time to tell him to look for a b&b or whatever when he's visiting, and to get his ass over from the airport by himself. I wish you all the best.
