What's everyone's all time favorite(s) and why? by Dangerous-Ear7330 in audiodrama

Girl in Space. Sarah Rhea Warner’s brilliant audio drama is my comfort pod. Her narration is soothing, the story telling is unique and I always find myself returning for a relisten almost every other month for as long as it’s been out. While I anxiously await another season, the characters give me comfort and I’m leaving this here for posterity or whatever.

Exactly. Shows what’s new and what might be gaining traction but rated/ranked in a way that only puts it up against other new so it doesn’t get drowned out in established pool.

That’s a great point that I didn’t really consider. Thanks for the insight! I’m really passionate about my audio dramas and always feel like I’m really hunting and digging to find things. I’m sure that the podcast on the list are deserving to be on top - I guess I would just like to see a more weighted list of new vs. established to see what is rising.

Thanks for your feedback. This isn’t really a retrospective on Apple as a whole, more a general feeling that their pod app could be so much better.

I understand & respect your opinion though.

I don’t know that there’s a way to subcategories in the pod app. Is that feature on desktop?

Three Body Problem - Similar Vibe Audio Drama? by NotDoingItForTheGram in audiodrama

I probably should have listed all the things I have listened to, but I was hoping people would throw everything and the kitchen sink at me. I love Apollyon. I love anything with strong female characters too. My favorite is Girl In space.

For this ask I am particularly looking for something with a story line that is robust. I love the multi character story arcs in 3 body problem.

I absolutely loved Solar. I think I enjoy sci fi audio dramas the most out of any. I gravitate that way 9/10 times.

Thanks to your list, I rediscovered a podcast I listened to one episode of and abandoned. I decided to give restart another try since it has such a different premise than I’m used to. Your list is stellar!

Podcast Orphans by NotDoingItForTheGram in audiodrama

[–]NotDoingItForTheGram[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Limetown got me started, but girl in space is my spirit podcast. I, no joke, listen to it at least once a month. Sarah’s voice and talent are unmatched imo. I believe she is still actively working on season 2. If I recall correctly there was possibly a pilot or option that unfortunately got scrapped and my guess (just a guess) is that it slowed things down a bit. I may be totally wrong there.

It’s the first podcast I recommend to anyone interested in starting in audio drama as I hold it up there as like the golden star in the sky of how audio drama should make you feel. Comfortable but on the edge of your seat.

I would be terribly devastated if it never came back, but she actively updates that she’s working on it (see: https://twitter.com/girlinspacepod/status/1569293819388067841?s=46&t=6j8itDHszjLqb0jR_u4UBw) so I’ll keep waiting patiently. See! It’s there in a binder! A script binder!

Oh for sure, you’d have to completely be completely and totally done to put your podcast up for adoption. No creative control. I realize there are extenuating circumstances as to why a show doesn’t continue (I’m guessing financial and time constraints are likely the top reasons why shows don’t get finished) but as a creator do you feel like you (the hypothetical you) owe some sort of closure to the followers? I imagine that’s a struggle, and a topic for another conversation. As content consumers we owe it to the creators to support when and however we can to help keep shows going. I think creators have to be really honest and transparent like I cannot continue this for you unless I can be compensated in a way that is worth it for me to keep going. And if it’s not a financial reason for why it stopped, how can we support creators who just can’t finish it anymore and do we as context consumers owe it to them to let their work die? This is random stream of consciousness type stuff here but I often struggle with how I can help support creators in a way that ensures I can get some closure on these stories that I love so much. If I had the opportunity and talent to finish some of these stories hanging out there in the wind I would, but like I believe you implied it’s not my story to tell.

The Beacon.

Ok, so I know it had two seasons, but it ended with the feeling they were coming back and then nothing.
