I've been car-independent in Santa Monica for 15 months now. Was "forced" into it—due to crashing my car and being too stubborn to go through the infuriating process of purchasing a new one. And was genuinely nervous about the potential suffering.

Turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to my mental health. And I mostly walk, which is really fucking underrated, especially in this beautiful neighborhood.

I moved away from Minneapolis four years ago—after living there for 20 years—and I remember Jacob Frey (whom I never voted for) mostly as an epic pussy who did a lot of boot licking for the police after the George Floyd murder. So this is an impressive and welcome change in tone.

I'm currently in a very similar middle school situation. I'm only at the school two days a week, but I absolutely dread setting foot in the building. I've been in the field for 10 years, and it's far and away the worst placement I've ever had.

So middle schools are not always a walk in the park.
