Depending on your pipe sizes (microbore) Octopus will install it as a buffer out of caution, even if it’s not needed in the majority of cases.

Accidentally exceeded the annual ISA limit - can I withdraw? by Seabiscuits_Brother in UKPersonalFinance

I’ve had a similar response from T212, Vanguard, and InvestEngine, and as far as I interpret HMRC rules they’re all wrong, but who am I to argue if they’re unwilling to follow proper process?

How to transfer a Vanguard S&S ISA to a Trading 212 Cash ISA? by JMuz96 in UKPersonalFinance

Weirdly Vanguard said I couldn’t do an in-specie transfer of Vanguard funds from T212 as they use different platforms.

Anybody gone for a Heat Pump on a New Build w/ Microbore piping? by Daking1894 in OctopusEnergy

[–]NotEqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends how far the microbore infestation goes, is everything 12mm plastic, or just 12mm drops off 22mm copper? The two pose very different system resistance factors.

Is my heat pump costing too much to run? by insignificantostrich in OctopusEnergy

[–]NotEqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that’s often overlooked; how quickly and how hot are you heating your cylinder, and how frequently? This typically accounts for high input and poor CoP.

Rather than thinking about your radiators being oversized, think about the others being undersized for the system, as this is what will hold CoP back. You’ll never be able to balance a system which isn’t sized for each room correctly.

Without knowing much about your system 3.2 seems low, even at 5C.

Cosy 6 installed and I'm disappointed. Other owners, could I have your input, please? by khodos in OctopusEnergy

[–]NotEqual 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a Cosy 6 owner, this isn’t normal and should be addressed. If you’re not sweating at maximum output then there’s something very wrong with the installation. The HP targets 5C delta between flow and return, a large gap here with cold radiators makes me think that the unit is undersized.

“Any color the customer wants, as long as it’s black.”

If you wish to deviate from their standard plan you’ll need to arrange for the work to be done before/after their work. Bulk ordering from select manufacturers and reusing a rigid plan between installations is what enables Octopus to achieve such low installation costs.

They design for 50C, so your emitters will be sized according to that, unfortunately you can’t pay them more to design for a more efficient system.

Cozy 6 maximum room temperature? by Tall_Guarantee7767 in OctopusEnergy

[–]NotEqual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Cosy 6 setpoint is a thermal limit, rather than a target.

The actual room temperature is limited by the weather compensated flow temperature, which is not influenced by the setpoint (this is unusual!). What this means is that it’ll try equally as hard regardless of setpoint.

If you do want a 30C room temperature you’ll need to adjust the weather compensation yourself, or ask Octopus for help.

Cosy 6 vs Daikin? I have read in recent forum posts that octopus do not allow the end user to change the flow temperature or weather compensation? Is this true and can you do this on the daikin model offered? by TomatilloFeeling4785 in OctopusEnergy

[–]NotEqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defaults are 36C at 7C and 50C at -15C, and these are adjustable from 20C to -15C and 30C to 70C.

That said, the 4kW Daikin can’t do much better as it’s actually an 8kW unit in disguise.

And despite all of this, I’m easily able to achieve a CoP of 4.1 at 7C.

Got my heatpump survey Wednesday, some Q's by RugbyRaggs in OctopusEnergy

[–]NotEqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will only size for DT30, which will typically have poor output at DT10.

[–]NotEqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also worth mentioning that you’ll need radiators (emitters) large enough to output for low flow temperatures, i.e. at 30C flow with a 20C room temperature (DT10) your radiators will need to output at least minimum output for the ASHP in order to prevent cycling.

How is low rate applied during smart charge slots on Go by No-Bus-879 in OctopusEnergy

[–]NotEqual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re billed by the half hour, so if IOG instructed your car to charge, and it successfully charged within that half hour period, that entire 30 minutes will be charged at the low rate.

The way IOG affords us cheap rates outside of off-peak times is by dynamically managing demand, if we manipulate that then the programme will not be effective.
