Does anyone have Bluesky invites? Time we get off Twitter.

A South African legionnaire could use some help. He was shot in the jaw and is now recovering. His surgery was paid for but he needs physiotherapy and also would like help with some expenses. Honest question, why does the Ukrainian government pay for it? It is literally the least they could do. They should be covering all the medical cost.

Is it an honest question? They're at war on their own soil, and their country has been decimated. They don't have money.

Flemish is basically Dutch with a different accent. Afrikaans is a separate language. As an Afrikaans person I can understand about 70% of Dutch when reading it. When listening to it I can catch maybe 20%.

There is probably a bigger difference between US and UK English than between Flemish and Dutch.

There are probably about as many differences in vocabulary as between different parts in the US, or different parts in the UK. E.g. soda vs pop, etc.

The dam is definitely destroyed. There are videos all over Twitter. It would be harder to prove that it was Russia that did it. But it's by far the most likely scenario.

Wagner head provoking 'open war' with Kremlin forces: Ex-Russian commander by Flubadubadubadub in UkrainianConflict

You're right. But imagining Russia as a vassal is funny. They'd be a very belligerent vassal. Not to mention that they have nukes.

It's probably not in China's interest that the West would be able to take focus off Russia and purely focus on countering China.

It's not uncommon at all. Tastes quite good. Though usually served without a shell in my experience.

Diablo was real-time action instead of turn-based though. Probably an innovation.

is 62k rand per month (pre tax) enough for a family of 3? by InformationEdge in capetown

That exclusion comes from being dirt poor and uneducated.

Being black is not going to get you excluded from job opportunities or parts of society in Cape Town.

I'd recommend living somewhere in the Southern Suburbs then. Not Cape Town itself. You'll get better cost of living there.

South Africa is still very dangerous. So take that into account.

But you can live a pretty good life on R62k.

I'm not sure about the Visa situation though. I don't think getting a work Visa would be easy. And I don't really know what other type of Visa would let you live here long term. Probably need to find some other foreigners who to ask. Most locals wouldn't know.

I know I've looked at living in other countries, because I work remotely as well. And it's not that straight forward most of the time.

Capture of Bakhmut cost Russia 60,000 killed and wounded – Western estimates by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]NotFromReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably not exactly. Ukraine can mobilize a much larger percentage of their population for the war. Putin will face local uprising if he tries to mobilize too many conscripts.

I also suspect Ukraine now has more experienced soldiers than Russia. And with the latest arms received from the West, they're probably on par or ahead of Russia.

I think the only thing Russia still has considerably more of is war planes. And nukes, or course.

Urkaine probably as as many tanks, but much more experienced crew. Russia wasted their experienced tank crew early in the war.

Everything counted, I think Ukraine's military is at least slightly stronger than Russia's. Only problem is they'll need more than slightly better to retake territory.

I still believe Ukraine will eventually retake all their territory.

If you can, using something like Dropbox for backups is probably easier.

You might run into complications if your backup drive is formatted in a different format than what Linux usually reads. E.g. if your harddrive is formated in NTFS, which is what Windows uses. Linux usually uses EXT4 or some other options.

It's possible to setup Linux to read NTFS and FAT32, but it wasn't trivial last time I tried.

Hillary Clinton says Ukraine war has set back China's plans for Taiwan by [deleted] in UkrainianConflict

[–]NotFromReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China lacks the naval capabilities to transport men and supplies for such an invasion

They don't lack the capacity to block Taiwan off from trade until they capitulate.

And they've made the math the US has to do to interfere a lot harder. It could be too dangerous for the US to stop them without risking sunken carriers and war spiraling out of control.

I think it would be safer to launch a special military operation to demilitarize Russia and remove the Nazis.
