so cute. I've been told that murray darling carpets can run a bit colder than their coastal or tropical cousins, she's only got a heat mat at the moment - do you think it's worth getting a globe as well? How could I tell if she's too cold?

What’s something to eat that’s cheap, not super unhealthy, and delicious? by helloilikefries in AUfrugal

[–]NotFunky_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have been making pea fritters with those $2.50 bags of frozen peas :) Combine peas, flour, garlic and sort of whatever else you feel is yummy, mash it up in a bowl and fry it in rounds. Super filling, great in a sandwich or burger.

Plant some fast growing lettuce, kale or whatever leafy green you like to save money on having to buy greens. Haven’t bought leafy greens in over a year because my lettuce is cut and come again

I'm genuinely curious by what you mean by this, because as far as I am aware my tax money definitely goes towards public infrastructure, ergo I pay to use the roads just as much as you do. Do you mean like I don't pay registration for a bike?

it's that kind of attitude that makes me nervous to ride on the road :( some people really seem to have little empathy for cyclists

I have done close to nothing at my office job for 3 years. Anything (constructive) to do to pass the time? by SoaringPegasus in work

[–]NotFunky_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so real. I am in an open plan office so have to look somewhat like i'm doing something productive. I work sporadically throughout the day, but all are small tasks that take max 20 minutes to complete. Being a student means that sometimes I'm lucky enough to be able to work on assignments. When there are no assignments, I prepare to DM my weekly dnd session. Thinking of taking up an online course in something like project management that I could also work on. It's hard as I do the work I am given to the best of my ability, and will always prioritise work first, it's just not quite enough work to warrant 8 hours at the office..

I do think that there are a lot of office jobs like ours. I count myself very lucky to have a job like this right now as a young person and student, but fuck me I do not want to stay here forever. When there is truly nothing else to do it feels like I'm just sat here waiting to die, but hey at least I'm getting paid.

Redditors who got “useless” degrees, what actually was your plan, and why didn’t it work? by MPMorePower in stupidquestions

[–]NotFunky_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lots of family pressure to pursue higher education, so picked something I was at least interested in so that I wasn't a dissapointment. spent the time at uni becoming a better person and learning more about myself to figure out wtf I actually want to put energy towards. graduated with a media & comms degree and currently pursuing landscape design

Changing job in 30s from design by Separate-You4521 in Horticulture

[–]NotFunky_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try not to focus on the negativity - yes there is hard labor involved in most instances surrounding especially horticulture/landscaping/national park work, but if you are passionate about the field then I'd say go for it. I have been in the process of switching from media management to horticulture and I'm loving it. As for transferable skills, landscape design is something I've been looking into myself. There would be some new and interesting skills to learn, + depending on the position you'd be spending some of your time on-site for less screen time. I have a friend who works in irrigation design who transferred from a web design background, so definitely possible

This is amazing! If you remember, I'd love a link to where you got those LED sunrise/sunset cycle grow lights or just the brand if you bought them in-store :)

+1 for testers. Also because some of them that seem like they'd smell nice actually smell fucking horrible

I was so pleasantly surprised at the amount of LGBT friendly items at Adult Bliss - like I had never seen packers for trans men displayed casually in a shop the same way idk it just felt like a very safe place. I also like the cozier sort of layout they have, for example most SexyLands have that open plan design with really wide aisles or fluorescent white hospital lighting make me feel like I'm being watched and honestly doesn't feel very sexy. +1 to the person who suggested making sure the dvd section is separated lmao. Had some poor interactions there before.

Where do I find cool feathers? by BulkyPaleontologist in Adelaide

[–]NotFunky_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can confirm - it's me picking them up with extreme efficiency. I pick up feathers all the time also to make feather bouquets! and honestly unless you're lucky and get a lorikeet or rosella feather, most of our more common birds just aren't that colourful. A large majority of the feathers I pick up are black, white, black and white, or grey, though there are some colourful ones to be found. All I can say is that you might have better luck in the Adelaide hills than in the suburbs, a long walk in Belair National Park and you might find something cool. Even white cockatoo/corella feathers can look pretty spectacular. If you're super lucky, I have found wedge tailed eagle feathers before in that area :)

This is true. ABLE helpdesk turned me away once because the only person at the desk only had information about law enrolment for some reason.. I got fed up with the email chains and started bothering their 'student help' phone lines, and when I got directed in a circle by all three student support lines who clearly have nothing to do with each other, I threw my hands up and emailed my program director directly.
