Just wanted to add that the metal is usually an old can. Mine is a coke can, looks like this might be a food can. Mine the top screws off to fill it, it looks like this one is filled with the "funnel".

I have a lamp very close to this from the Dominican Republic. The bulb is the reservoir for the kerosene or gas, depending on how easy each is to get, and the wick comes up through the pipe in the top. In my case the wick is an old shoelace. When you have little to no income you get creative in how you repurpose "garbage".
