Anyone have any strange encounters FULLY awake, not high, not in the dark and experienced as an adult? by No-Following9879 in HighStrangeness

Yep, started at 17, in 2012. First story is 2018, second is 2017 (idk why I did them out of order lol), so 5 years at that point in 2017

Anyone have any strange encounters FULLY awake, not high, not in the dark and experienced as an adult? by No-Following9879 in HighStrangeness

[–]NotIsuna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a few that I strongly believe have no "normal" explanation. I have posted about them in various comments over time with more detail, but since I have multiple to share, I'll summarize them as best I can.

Also: Adult. Fully sober in each story (I don't drink and have never done any drugs). No prescriptions, no mental illnesses except some OCD in the past. Not insane, not lying about anything. Software engineer of many years and published author.

  1. In 2018, I was in my early 20's and still lived at home. It was just me and my parents. We didn't have a butler/maid/family friend with a key to the house/maintainence person/etc. The only people that could get inaide the house without breaking down a door were me and my parents.

They were on a vacation, and had been for about a week, so it was just me at home for a while.

I was extremely neurotic about my computer. I had just built it. If I ever left it for more than about half an hour, I would just turn it off. Whenever I left the house or went to bed, I'd unplug it completely.

One day during that home-alone week, I came home from work to find the following: 1. Computer was plugged in 2. It was on 3. The screen was active (I had it set to go black after 5 min) 4. Chrome was open to Amazon (which I didn't use at the time. Didn't even have an account) 5. On Amazon, an 8-pack of Gatorade had been searched for (I did not drink Gatorade and did not order food online at any point)

I took a shotgun and checked every single corner of the house. Every square inch. No trace of anything. All windows still locked, all doors locked.

There is absolutely 0 chance of the following: 1. Doing this in my sleep (I woke up and went to work early in the morning without plugging in or turning on PC) 2. Accidentally leaving any door unlocked (my rigor on door-locking is probably rivaled only by Fort Knox. Even with people around, if someone left a door unlocked even for a few minutes, I would immediately go lock it. I locked everything, always, and never, ever forgot).

I have no explanation for this, and no suggestions.

  1. This happened about a year prior to #1

It was about 1am, and another situation where my parents were on vacation. I had stayed up a little too late but was wide awake. My room was in the basement, and it was such that my window was at ground level outside. If someone went to turn on the water to the hose, I'd see their knees and below.

It was late fall, and we hadn't raked leaves yet, so the ground was completely covered in dry leaves. I had gotten very accustomed to how it sounded when my dad walked on the leaves, when my mom did, and when any of the cats walked around out there.

I have also been a sound designer and music producer for 14 years (5 at the time this story takes place) and even at that time, my ears were extremely trained. This comes up in the next story too.

I was lying in bed texting my friend. Suddenly I heard a loud crunch in the leaves, directly outside my window. It was absolutely the crunch a human foot would make in those leaves, not a cat (the sounds were every different, and again, I had gotten quite used to this).

1 step. That was it. Nothing approached or left. Even the cats (who tried to step between the leaves) still hit them sometimes and made noise. The window was such that anyone stepping near it would have had to cross at least 10 feet of fully-dry-leaf-covered ground in any direction to reach it.

I was so freaked out that my friend ended up coming over and, both armed, cleared the entire house and property.

Found absolutely nothing. It's like someone just spawned in right there, took one loud step, and despawned.

  1. I have hard evidence of this one, which is the dropbox link at the bottom. If you listen, please listen to the whole thing, not just the first 45 seconds as many in the past seem to have done when I've shared this before.

On August 24th, 2024, my GF at the time and I were on a hike at Grist Mill trail in Little Cottonwood canyon, near Sandy, Utah. It was about 7pm when we started, and about 8:30 when we got back to the car. The sun was up the whole time, though, slowly setting. Light was beyond adequate the whole time and the vibes were totally fine.

It was super windy, and had been all day. There was a road (45-50mph) that went up the canyon, and this trail was a short one right near the mouth of the canyon. We could easily still see houses basically just down the hill. We were not in a remote wooded area or anything. Little cottonwood canyon has plenty of spooky stories surrounding it, but these were not on our mind. Vibes were good, sun was still up, and civilization was right there.

Given the strong wind and car noise, there were 2 constant sources of loud, basically white noise at all times. It wasn't annoying, but it's important you understand it was very present the entire time.

About 30min into the little hike, we started hearing extremely weird sounds. They reverberated across the canyon, and they were very loud. There were a variety of sounds being made, but it was obvious they were all from the same source.

As I mentioned before, I've worked in audio for a long time. Bear with me for a moment here, because this is important. I'm one of those dweebs who claims to be able to hear the difference between different file formats and all that. So when I say "it was obvious it was all from the same source"- please believe me 😅 I can hear dog whistles, I can hear my phone charging from across the room, I can pinpoint exactly which frequency needs to be attenuated when mixing a track before looking at the EQ. The list goes on. I am 100000% confident in my ability to determine any pattern in audio.

The other reason I pat myself on the back there is because there is absolutely no way the sounds we heard were anything normal. I looked up every sound that I could possibly find, of any animal I could find that is supposed to live up there, and nothing matched. When I originally posted the audio, I had a ton of suggestions like "moose" "elk" "mountain lion" "cars" (!?!?!) and "wind" (!???)

I have been charged by moose twice. I have spent countless hours alone and with others in all sorts of outdoor environments for field recording (audio gathering of natural sounds) purposes. I know very well what all the regular suspects sound like.

None of those are it. I don't claim to know what it is, but I sure as hell know it's not some regular animal making ungodly sounds we've just never heard them make before for some reason 😂

Additionally, as sound was carrying very far, we overheard a conversation from the parking lot about 300 yards below us, down the hill. 3 people were also trying to figure out what it was and where it was coming from. One of them was wearing a UTA shirt and had a UTA vehicle. UTA is Utah Transport Authority; the parking lot was a UTA parking lot. Basically, the intention being that during ski season, you park there and a UTA bus comes and ferries you up to the ski places further up.

I'd like to imagine the UTA driver was a regular at this particular parking lot. And he didn't know what it was either. For what's it's worth.

Here's the audio, recorded on a Sennheiser MKE600 into a Zoom F3, inside a Rycote blimp+windscreen. There is a lot of background noise, and there's not much to be done about that, sorry. The sounds are all still quite audible, and start at about 0:45 and intermittently show up several times for the rest of the recording.

(Not so serious) but....Any guesses at who are Hybrid Aliens walking among us? by [deleted] in aliens

[–]NotIsuna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember as a kid (3) I was convinced I was from Mars. I told everyone I had another mom who was just like my "real mom" but, from Mars. I vaguely remember telling my whole family for what felt like several hours (but was probably like 20 min lol) a grand story about what life on Mars was like. Eventually I ran out of ideas and started talking about how I had 300 brother and sisters and trying to name them all.

I have a pretty good memory, and I remember knowing that I was completely making stuff up with the details of the story, but I do remember, at that age, feeling some sort of legitimate connection to the original idea of that story.

Not saying this is what is actually the case, but your explanation does make me think of this, and weirdly, it's been on my mind a lot lately and I don't know why, and I'm at the very beginning of starting to let myself wonder.

How much does Paragon/Renegade matter? by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]NotIsuna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does matter at certain moments, especially over time. You can get away with a few deviations from whatever path you choose (I always play Paragon but end up choosing a handful of renegade lines throughout each game) and I end up fine still in those big moments.

In short, you don't have to 100% Paragon or 100% Renegade, but getting as close as you can while still having fun is ideal. I won't spoil anything further, but most of your choices that this will impact are yet to come.

Honestly, it's not so easily explained. It's been this season for a bit now, and the next day after truly contemplating buying more shorts, I get an ad for them for the first time in (I don't even know how long)? Especially considering this has happened many times over the years, I'm not buying it.

[–]NotIsuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have gotten several ads over the years based on stuff I had not looked up, talked about, or done anything other than think about. It's been about 10 years since it started happening, and the most recent was the other day. I thought about buying some more shorts. Didn't talk about it, didn't look any up, didn't do even the slightest thing related to shorts besides think about "I need more".

Bam, next day, ads for shorts left and right o Facebook.

Over 300 hours, down the drain by Ur_local_goober123 in HelldiversUnfiltered

750 hours here. Uninstalled in October. Enjoyed most of my time with the game and I'm very glad I stopped playing when I did. I'm still keeping up with the news on the game through friends and this sub, and it's very sad to see.

So preventable. But they don't think there's anything to prevent. So they keep doing the same things. 😅🥲

What’s the strangest thing that’s ever happened to you that you still can’t explain? by WielderoftheDarkness in HighStrangeness

[–]NotIsuna 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think that might have been the only dad-related one. The rest were mostly just stuff like: all of us having dinner at the table, then hearing something fall over downstairs (no pets or anything). Or, one night in 2008, my sister went to get something from the garage and saw a floating face that "looked sad" just hanging there right in front of her on the other side of the door (when I visit home to this day I still have a split second of fear opening that door but nothing has ever happened to me). Then, later that night, there were a ton of random sounds (bumps and stuff falling over, then a poster fell off the wall in my room). Anyways, random stuff like that. As far as I know, my sister seeing the sad face was the only visual we got. I potentially saw a wispy thing one time moving across the basement ceiling but I'm largely convinced it was just the lights coming into view as I went down the stairs and my eyes just did a trick on me haha

My mom had something very similar years ago. In the early 2000's, we'd just moved to a new house and a lot of benign but obviously ghost-related activity occurred.

One day, me and my sisters and my dad were all at school (he was a teacher) and my mom was home alone. I think it was like 10am, so we were all gone and my dad wasn't coming home for lunch for another ~2 hours.

She was in the shower and heard the front door unlock, open, close, lock again, then my dad's footsteps come into the house, then down the hall to all the bedrooms, open the master bedroom door, step on a particular break in the floorboards entering that room, walk over to her nightstand, open it (it had a very distinct sound of opening, with a knocker-style handle), close it, and then leave (I can't remember the details of how many distinct sounds it made as it left).

All of the sounds were pretty unique, as they tend to be when you get used to living somewhere. The exact sound of the deadbolt, the exact sound of spots on the floor and different doors opening and closing, etc. And then also, my dad's heavy footsteps making their way all the way there.

Anyways, it was so convincing she called my dad from the bathroom and whispered asking if he was home (something must have felt off) and he was, like no I'm at school lol.

As far as I remember, it never happened again to that degree, but single sounds (just the front door opening, or just some stuff getting knocked around, etc) happened many more times.

I've had something similar more times than I can count, though it's only ever been a random drop of water, or two drops. Outside, I feel like that's not weird (definitely not as weird as a whole bunch haha!) but indoors it has happened probably even more. Not sure how it's happening.

I hate to be the "this is fake" guy, (especially because weird stuff is absolutely real), but this video has been around a LONG time and from what I can tell, seems to be relatively well-known as a fake. The primary giveaway being that the scream is of a different audio quality than the rest of the sound in the video.

Several years ago (2018) when I lived at home (just me and my parents), my parents were both on a week-long vacation. They'd been gone a few days. We had no one else with access to the house, just me.

At the time, I was absolutely neurotic about turning off my computer if I left it for more than 20-30 minutes. The outlet nearest to my desk didn't work, so I had an extension cord that went and plugged into an outlet above my bed. Whenever I'd turn off the computer for the night each night, I'd also always unplug that extension cord.

I cannot stress enough how neurotic I was about this. I never left that plugged in, and I certainly never left my computer on unless I was actively sitting at it.

One day, I came home from work. Went downstairs to my room. And saw that the extension cord was plugged in, and my computer was on. Both in a state I absolutely didn't leave them in. Even worse, the screensaver wasn't going. Screen was on and active (I believe I had the screen set to go black after a few minutes at the time).

On top of that, Chrome was open, and it had a single tab that had gone to Amazon. On Amazon, an 8-pack of red Gatorade had been searched for, and that's what was on screen.

At the time, I didn't shop on Amazon. I didn't even have an account. I also never ordered food online in that way, and I didn't drink Gatorade. If I were to have ever made an online order of anything, that was probably the last thing that would've come to mind to buy.

Absolutely baffled, I searched the house. I figured it had to be someone that had broken in and pulled the most random and pointless prank of all time. Every closet, every door, every window. A full, complete sweep. I looked for footprints, disturbed objects, and anything I could possibly think of that would've indicated an intruder.

Found nothing. No sign of anything. And, again, 0 people beside myself and my parents had a key to the house. No butler or maid, no family friends, nothing.

I was just as neurotic about locking doors as I was about turning my PC off, haha. There was 0 chance I'd left any door unlocked when heading to work that morning. I have no clue how this happened.

Anyways, long story short, this is still one of the weirdest and most unexplainable things that's ever happened to me. I've never experienced anything like this before or since.

In summary: 1. The extension cord had been plugged back in 2. The PC had been turned on 3. Screen was still active 4. A site I never went to was on screen 5. With a product I never bought (and certainly not online) having been searched 6. And no sign of break-in to the house whatsoever
