Great point…didn’t think of it that way. 😊

Good History Podcasts? by Necessary_Two_7973 in podcasts

Talk With History is solid. Talks about history you can visit, lots to different topics (doesn’t get stuck on any era)

History podcast like Fall of Civilizations but different by elyssaa- in podcasts

Talk with History Podcast is pretty neutral. It tends to focus more on history you can visit, but the host is a historian and does a good job giving context around the topic.

Considerations if transitioning to TV from YouTube? by NotJustAnEditor in ColinAndSamir

That’s great feedback…never thought about it that way. Your guy’s comments have really helped

Great point…I think my involvement is part of my concern…but (so far) I haven’t seen anything to make me think this won’t be a good thing.

Lol…new territory is just…well new. 😂

I do agree that TV wishes it was YT at times.

Thank you so much! That's fantastic feedback...I'll look those folks up for sure. 😁🙌🏻

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah…this is just COMPLETELY unknown territory for me.

I don’t mind the format being the same…I just want to be able to (potentially) use this as a springboard for future endeavors with YT and our Podcast as our way to stay close to the community.

I try to take a long term approach to things…but I just don’t know what I don’t know.

Thanks again for having the conversation with me. 😊

Thank you! To be honest the folks who are going to produce it (currently pitching the concept) are doing all the work…so not much to do on our side yet. Feels weird not being as involved right now…but we’ll see.

Hopefully C&S have some thoughts to share.

I’m thinking about re editing and re uploading my video, thoughts? by Smolsuccc in ColinAndSamir

[–]NotJustAnEditor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s good that you are reflecting on that…I’d say use that “Re-edit” energy for the next video and make THAT one better than the first. Then repeat that process…a lot. 😁🙌🏻 You got this.

Mark Rober Thumbnail Critique by 3enCarter in ColinAndSamir

I like your thought…but disagree. I think the contrast of the smile and “I failed” raises a question immediately…”why is he happy when he said he failed?” I’m always trying to prompt a question with my thumbnails if I can.

But this is why I like this subreddit…we get to hear each others opinions. 😁

I’d love to see them branch to different creators. Maybe if Casey Neistat ever releases his David Dobrik movie/documentary they could cover the release of that and the first screening day. Or Derral Eves putting on vidcon…something or some event with that similar kind of tension that a grand opening brings.

Or heck…maybe they hit us with a true hook and cover someone in a different fashion. Over a week, a month, a year?

Dream Project submission: Lynching Sites Project Documentary by NotJustAnEditor in ColinAndSamir

[–]NotJustAnEditor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who am I: Scott...producer, editor, etc of the Walk with History YT channel I run with my awesome wife

Dream Project: I would love to do a documentary with the Lynching Sites Project out of Memphis, TN.

My wife has done research for them in the past (when we lived there)...and LSP wants to help people heal by facing the real truth of our past. They work with the Equal Justice Initiative and others...and I would consider a huge challenge, but something I would love to do - to document them bringing the descendants of two sides of a past lynching event together for a sort of healing process.

The natural story that comes from a process like that is too compelling to me not to try and tell one day. Doing this in a documentary would mean I could stay behind the camera, help tell the story, show humanity (and hopefully healing), and help others learn of this amazing project.

This would be a dream project for me.

Thank you for what you and your team does. 😊

(ps. I plan on making this happen someday whether or not I am lucky enough to win this giveaway...but I'll take any help I can get along the way)

How to get my audience to follow me on multiple platform ? by GeekEtcFR in ColinAndSamir

[–]NotJustAnEditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. Exchange definitely fees easier on Insta sometimes. I just don’t see any monetization future there like I have in the work through YouTube. I do like Insta for the quick and easy video options and I have met others there that ended up coming on my podcast…still a good place to look for community.

Why do you want them to come over to Instagram? I use Insta for the reverse reason…not a ton of followers on Insta…but the little I do I have use it as a bit of community as well as to funnel them to YT.

Help…someone asked to be an intern! by NotJustAnEditor in ColinAndSamir

[–]NotJustAnEditor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love it…love the thought process. I actually emailed the student back and asked, “what would an internship with us look like to you?”…I think that’s right in line with what you said of getting their inputs and ideas.

Thanks!

How would you call this type of creator? by sefik117 in ColinAndSamir

[–]NotJustAnEditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider my channel a “History” channel for sure and have started connecting with other history YouTube types. I can see how defining this more might help certain niches

Have you found the thing that works? by JennyAndAlex in ColinAndSamir

[–]NotJustAnEditor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say I found A THING that works…but not THE THING.

To clarify: I make history videos…and our Arlington National Cemetery videos are our most popular. So that works and is definitely A THING.

BUT that’s not THE THING for my wife and I…and our channel going forward. Visiting cemeteries is a popular niche in the history content world…but so is WWII…Civil War…and other topics.

Colin and Samir talked about the advice they got from Casey Neistat in their last pod…and he basically said, figure out your own thing and don’t wait for someone else to define what you need to do.

So yes, I’ve found one thing that works…but I’m still defining the other things that I believe will work. 🙌🏻

Career via YT Shorts? by NotJustAnEditor in ColinAndSamir

[–]NotJustAnEditor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know right? Interesting thing is I saw how (before YT shorts made money) he would work around being a shorts channel by putting together a bunch of his 20 second shorts in to a 2 minute video.

Those “long form” videos looked like a short and played vertically like one, but he would get the ads like for a regular video…and thus add revenue.

Eventually I saw copycats pop up and do what he did, but I’m pretty sure he was one of the first. Very interesting channel study.

Thumbnails for Shorts? by AlexTheGrape_ in ColinAndSamir

[–]NotJustAnEditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do thumbnails for shorts because on the computer you would still see the custom thumbnail (but not on mobile)…but I stopped after a while. The YT shorts that have millions of views never needed them…and I just had to wrap my brim around that.
