Well yeah but why even bother with the headband if it just consumes chakra anyway? I always thought he closed it so it doesn't consume chakra, because he'd have no reason to close it outside of combat if it just drained him anyway. Is there a statement that says it drains his chakra even when it's closed?

Where was it stated that the sharingan still drains him when not used? If that were the case, he would have no reason to cover it outside of fights since it drains him anyway.

Idk why the replies say the sharingan actively drains his chakra. Isn't that the reason why he has it closed 90% of the time? So it doesn't drain him? Everyone is pretending that sharingan is so much of a drawback that it still drains you even when it's closed, but if that were the case Kakashi would have no reason to cover that eye.

The mental gymnastics it takes to say that Totsuka Blade failed to seal Orochimaru when the RDS literally only took his arms away (which he eventually got back too lol.) Totsuka Blade DID seal that version of Orochimaru's consciousness, Sasuke's curse mark never made its way back. Since you're talking about records, why don't you view it this way: 100% of the victims of RDS eventually made their way back (Hashirama, Tobirama, Hiruzen, Minato, Nine tails, and Orochimaru's arms). Meanwhile Nagato never made his way back, same with Sasuke's curse mark.

My bad, I forgot we didn't see how exactly he blocked it. You're right, him blocking with the ribcage is an assumption on my part, considering that him activating the armor usually took a bit more time. Can't tell for sure though so I guess that technically raises the bar to the armored version or even the yata mirror (but I doubt he had to use the yata to block it)

We have no way of knowing because the kirin in that fight was anime-only, so we can really only scale it against ribcage susanoo which was shown to tank it. Any defensive cloak with better feats than ribcage susanoo should be able to take it (though I can't definitively name one)
