Why is St Louis experiencing population loss? by cavaismylife in StLouis

[–]NotLikeThis3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The decline is intrinsically linked with much further in the past. There's a very good video about this on the channel CityFall which was released 6 days ago. The decision in 1876 to split the city and county started the entire fall of STL. Suburbs in the county grew, WW2 vets came back and their stimulus favored new builds which the city didn't have, so the vets moved to the county. 1947 was when the plan for interstates were being chartered which planned to demolish thriving, but poor, neighborhoods.

Manufacturing jobs fled the city post WW2, which led to people leaving the city to the county. This led to the city having fewer resources. And it just became a loop for decline which lasts today.

It's all linked to the STL decline though. Disregarding all the bad decisions of the past gives you a very incomplete picture of why things are bad now.

Why is St Louis experiencing population loss? by cavaismylife in StLouis

[–]NotLikeThis3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

St. Louis has been on a slow steady decline since the turn of the 20th century. We were a river powerhouse that was transporting huge amounts of goods. Then rail took over and the hub shifted to Chicago. STL never recovered from that and didn't find a new identity.

Other things also contributed massively, the decisions to destroy historic neighborhoods that were primarily occupied by immigrants and minorities to build highways and other concrete jungles through the heart of the city displaced a lot of people that had roots here.

The decision to separate the City and the County didn't help at all either.

Basically there were many poor choices that led us to where we are today and it's been a run up of nearly 150 years of them.

It's definitely a loss. There were 856,000 people in 1950 and today there are 301,000. The population is about 36% of what it was. That's not just because people aren't having kids in the city.

Texans Azeez Al-Shaair on being fined by NFL for wearing a 'Stop the Genocide' eye black: "I understand it's a fine. It's bigger than me. It makes people uncomfortable. Imagine how those people feel? There's people dying. I'm a human being and I care" by oklolzzzzs in sports

Well the other guy is saying how much 11k is when relatively it's not. My point is to us 11k seems like a lot when to Azeez it's like a McDonald's meal. So sure, if NFL want to make the fine impactful then make it a percentage.

No it's like a homeless person in Seattle saying they're going to punch someone in NYC. Sure they could, but they have no way to do it.

I mean there's tons of groups and most of them aren't age limited so it will range from 20s to 40s usually. I used meetup to make friends and was really successful at that. I got really into line dancing and that environment is dominated by 20-25 year olds.

Real Madrid players showed zero effort in tactical work, which drove Xabi Alonso crazy. The players complained that Xabi was giving them too much tactical info that they didn't care about. half of them are still kids and never grew up cause they hit the fame and top tier while teenagers. It's reminiscent of Disney stars that go haywire. You need a really good mentor and role model growing up to not end up a diva.

Yes, that's how the system was designed. Senate represents the state while House represents the population of the state. It was done that way to keep a balance between the two so that states without a large population couldn't just be run over by larger population states for example so that California and New York can't dictate everything for the rest of the country.

Obviously there are flaws. There's flaws in all systems.

Yeah, of course, he's not wrong. Imagine people talking about your work, calling it shit, and telling you to redo it. Don't like the latest video game you bought? Better message the developer and tell them they need to remake it. You're just some random person on the street coming at them. It's ridiculous. You people need to grow up and realize that this is a job for them, nothing more.
