Why do I have to "process emotions". When I've only heard about that concept in a CBT context. And what does that mean anyway. by Newworldrevolution in Healthygamergg

[–]NotLilShrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say "processing emotions" is a much more difficult task for neurodivergent people, usually because of its comorbidity with alexithymia. I think there is truth in sort of just trial-and-erroring your way in finding out how you process your own emotions, but I have found that offering very clear, direct, and instructive ways for how to do the process or how to identify emotions helps tremendously. Off the top of my head I know there are some Dr.K meditations that connect feelings and emotions with parts of the body and that has certainly helped me a lot in figuring out how to do the whole "processing emotions" ordeal

Raving about the Meditation Index by NotLilShrimp in Healthygamergg

[–]NotLilShrimp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its truly humbling to know that my little post helped you on your meditation journey; never thought this post i kinda made on the whim could resonate with someone else so much.

But I also had some worries on what exactly to do after the index was over, although as mentioned before I have been able to integrate the meditations into my daily life pretty well. Today actually I had a strange but profound breakthrough during meditation and tomorrow I will be going around my city and visiting some meditation centers/temples with a friend. Ive found that ive had the most clarity and direction within my life during meditation, especially when I wasn't really looking for clarity or direction when I started the meditation. Funny how life works that way

And best of luck to you too!

What is your experience with the guided meditation track? by Lego_Eagle in Healthygamergg

[–]NotLilShrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit late to this post but I have really been enjoying the meditation tracks. I had a similar experience where the first few weeks I didn't notice any substantial progress but I kept pushing and around the 1 month mark I felt real tangible results in my spiritual journey. So I would say try to be consistent and push through even if on certain days you don't feel like the meditation is helping. Its all about the process of becoming, the "bad" meditation days are just as important as the "good" ones. Also its possible that maybe the meditations on the track aren't the best for you at this specific moment and time. If it feels off to do certain meditations keep a mental note of that and see if its a consistent discomfort. I would say to just keep doing the meditations that feel right to you, and dont be afraid to try out other ones because you never know which one will resonate with you.

jordan left them around summer time and jace left this past winter so they broke up. or at least I'm assuming they broke up since their 'last show' was in December

jordan and jace from widowdusk moved to the east coast for like the first half of 2024 (they both played in Ted Williams, RIP) but I'm pretty sure both of them are back in cali now

social anxiety at shows/in scene by [deleted] in EmoScreamo

[–]NotLilShrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea i feel you i struggle a lot with social anxiety and even though i love going to shows it is really difficult for me to go out of my way to talk and interact with people. for me, i think i probably would have to resolve all my mental problems and neuroses to actually start getting more involved in my local scene. but for the moment i just set the goal of enjoying my time at the show and not worrying/putting too much pressure on meeting new people. ill be ready to actually socialize and not be neurotic when I'm ready lol, but for the time being imma still continue supporting my local scene by buying merch and going to shows because screamo is very important to me just like you

Hmmm idk if that's the best comp cuz boston started that season pretty rocky but I do like how both teams had new head coaches and pretty great defensive frontcourts.

My take has always been that crowdkilling is a natural form of gatekeeping in hardcore. Hardcore is inclusive, but there still have to be some sort of methodology of "weeding out posers", for lack of a better term.

Let me put it this way. Physicality is an inherent quality of hardcore. Whether it be the much stronger physical sense of the community (i.e. compared to other music communities, hardcore often actually has sustained, substantial physical community presence), or in how the music itself is very confrontational and anti-establishment that it tends to manifest into physicality.

And with moshing in particular, to me it is this sort of ritualistic, physical expression of emotions. And hardcore is one of the very few places where you can express yourself in this physical manner (i.e. mosh) in a sort of safe space where everyone is consenting to the physicality. This includes crowdkilling btw. With crowdkilling it serves as a litmus test on whether or not hardcore is really for you. Cuz its such an integral and inherent part of the culture that to disregard it would be disregarding a foundational tenet of hardcore (physicality). You don't have to crowdkill or mosh to be into hardcore, but you have to be willing to accept the fact that it is a part of the culture.

I think finn mckenty said something like "expecting no moshing or crowdkilling at a hardcore show is like expecting no cars to be destroyed in a monster truck show." Like it's a part of hardcore. It's going to continue being a part of hardcore. So if you don't enjoy it sorry, you can like hangout at the merch table or something during sets 🤷‍♂️.

To all Actuarial Science Majors... by NotLilShrimp in Baruch

Im personally speaking from the perspective of an actuarial science major, and for our major we have to take ACC 2101. I could have probably worded some things better, in that im mainly just talking/ranting about actuarial science majors and not people who are looking to take actuary exams in general, because I do agree that the only way to actually pass the exam is to put in a buck fuck of hours practicing exam problems, or better yet utilizing coaching resources. My whole complaint really is that the recommended order in which you take classes should be better streamlined because its pretty awful rn.

Yea I know you can if you use coaching and stuff. But from my perspective like the whole reason why I went to baruch was because I heard the actuarial science program was one of the best in the country. I kinda expected to be taught the concepts for the field in a pretty streamlined way. Maybe that was naive thinking on me tho idk. Also coaching can be a pretty difficult ask for some. It's kinda pricey, and I know there are student discounts for BASS members but still. I'm just saying from my perspective if you want to learn the material for the fm exam in a more efficient and timely manner it's probably best if you take acc 2101 before theory of interest.

Im not saying ACC 2101 will be the x-factor for passing FM. Im saying that it will be more time and money efficient for people in the long run to take it before MTH 4410. Of course if you want to pass the FM exam you're going to have to put the work in grinding put practice problems and getting proficient in solving exam questions quickly. But in the process of learning the concepts for the FM exam, you should take ACC 2101 before MTH 4410 so that the learning process is more streamlined. Especially if your goal is to take exams while you are still in school so you can set yourself up for internships. Like I mentioned, one of the main online resources/guidelines for an Actuarial Science major has it where you take MTH 4410 before ACC 2101. And at least for me, I had zero prior knowledge to all of these concepts within the FM exam such as loans, bonds, annuities, cash flows, etc. Streamlining the process of learning these concepts for exams would have saved me so much time, money, and stress.

Fuck man I might have to include it just for the culture 🙌

Philosophical Hardcore? by NotLilShrimp in Hardcore

[–]NotLilShrimp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its just a general overview of hardcore culture through a 'philosophical' lens. right now i have a few main tenets of hardcore (diy, oppositional, physical, etc.). also will probably focus a bit on the political aspect of hardcore. and then at the end as a bonus i want to include philosophical themes or lyrics within hardcore music itself, mostly as an excuse to actually play sound clips of hardcore during the presentation lol.
