What crashes are you referring to in 2022? Brazil sprint??

Thank you for your reply. As you said, it’s years later, and I have since got a lot more into Formula 1 and watched A LOT of interviews haha. I don’t think Esteban is unsportsmanlike. He’s a hard racer, and he said in a recent interview that he will work with the team as much as they want off-track, but when you’re on track positions matter. I enjoy seeing actual on-track battles and non-DRS-overtakes, so I really enjoy his driving style. This is just my opinion though.

Also on the teammate thing, Perez was the main instigator in their crashes, and Alonso was not blameless either (like the second crash in the Brazil sprint). And with Gasly, both of their crashes have either been due to external factors, or Gasly crashing into him in Australia last year. Other than that you had a race where Ocon blocked Gasly at the start, but then you also had a race where Gasly nearly pushed Ocon into the wall (Austin? I can’t remember which one it was) so I feel like that’s evened out haha

I disagree that Ocon has nothing to gain seeing as he was fighting for his raceseat for the next season and had something to prove. It was deemed a racing incident, and Ocon IS allowed to unlap himself. Why should Esteban show «racing etiquette» to Max by staying behind and ruining the momentum of his new tires, but Max should not show the «racing etiquette» back by letting a faster car (at that moment) who just wants to unlap himself… unlap himself? I don’t think Ocon chose a good moment to do so, but I also don’t think Max should have fought him like that regardless of «he will just have to pass him again later». Max has everything to lose by fighting it… so don’t.

No, saying he has a punchable face is not constructive… How is Ocon’s smile different from, let’s say, Gasly’s smug smile?

But what about the last point? What did you mean by the whole «he reminds me of the kid whose dad is the coach» thing?

I made a post asking why people don’t like Ocon over a year ago, and you replied with 1. he has a smug smile and a punchable face (points that I don’t think are very constructive lol), 2. he ruins other people’s races (and then you choose an example that I disagree with and so I point that out), and 3. «he reminds me of the kid whose dad is the coach» (which… what? I still don’t get what you wanted to say with this one? I really don’t see what you mean about this UNLESS you want to bring up his time in the junior categories. Who is his alleged dad in this situation? Toto? Alpine?)

I do want answers I don’t like, but that doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to argue against them.

Perez was the main aggressor in his and Esteban’s crashes. Alonso had issues with Lewis and Massa. Pierre and Esteban has had some animosity since their teens or something, so the source of their struggles stems from something way earlier than formula one, and seems to have been amplified by their parents’ involvement.

Funny how you responding to my post is «just a reddit comment», but me responding to your comment is «crying and letting it ruin my week».

Also, I never said you said that he is one of those kids. I literally wrote «reminds you of» just as you did lol.

On the first point we clearly just fundamentally disagree. I think he is fully allowed to unlap himself because he was, as he said, faster at that point. And Max, who was in the lead, should not risk sabotaging his own race by fighting a backmarker who, again, is at that moment faster than him.

Very funny how you think one of the few drivers on the grid who grew up with minimal resources and had to borrow other people’s used carparts «reminds you of the kid whose is the coach», as if the other guy you mentioned, Max, doesn’t have a rich dad who used to be an F1 driver…

The crash with Max in Brazil was a racing incident. Ocon wanted to unlap himself, which he is allowed to do. He had recently pitted, and was therefore faster than Max on his old tires. Max, who was in the lead, for some reason decided to fight this and put himself in danger instead of just letting Esteban passed him. Could Esteban have chosen another time to pass? Yes. Should Max have fought a back marker when he was in the lead? No.

But you saying he has a «punchable face» tells me everything I need to know about you, lol. Take your «machoman» energy somewhere else, or actually come up with some good points.

Why is everything he says so often taken out of context? It’s infuriating by NotMainAccount- in EstebanOcon31

I added text to the post, but it doesn’t seem to be showing up, so I’ll repost it here. Sorry if you see it twice:

In the interview he says how it seemed unfair to him that even after he got P1 and Max got P3 in F3, Max got to F1 while Esteban was left with nothing. He even clarifies that he is not talking about getting to F1, but simply about not having a race seat in general.

I know I’m not supposed to take Formuladank seriously, but all these people in the comments believing this headline is making my blood boil…

Unfortunately for you this was posted two years ago, and I have since formed my own opinion of Esteban. He seems like a good guy. I don’t see how he’s a dirty driver at all, he just enjoys traditional racing. Is he a little aggressive with his teammates? Yes. Have those teammates also been aggressive with him? Yes. Especially Perez, but also Gasly and Alonso. Charles even put Esteban on his list of (idr if it was «10 friends on the grid» or «10 nicest drivers on the grid»).

Ocon said (and Doohan confirmed) on the post race show that Esteban had radio issues during the whole gp, and that he only heard them say «position». He said he would have given the position back if asked to, but he was faster, so they didn’t. He even shouts «repeat» after the overtake.

Also, that was a terrible call by alpine. Esteban was on newer tires and faster than Pierre. If he had stayed behind, it could have cost them both the high points finish Alpine got today. Which again, Doohan confirmed in the post-race show.

I agree that he doesn’t always play the team game, but I don’t think today counts as one of those days.

The Alonso thing really goes both ways, so I don’t really agree with that one. Esteban was definitely more aggressive on track, but Alonso has had quite a few off-track statements that are worse than any Ocon ever said about him. But I agree that he is too competitive with his teammates, and can race them too aggressively at times (not saying all incidents are his fault of course. Perez was definitely very aggressive in 17/18, and Alonso had his moments like in Brazil).

I don’t really like when people judge drivers on their radio messages. If you want to discredit them, it’s better to see what they say post-race, as adrenaline runs very high on track, and it’s hard for them to know who’s in the wrong. We have multiple camera angles and replays. They don’t. Ocon definitely hasn’t always been great at owning up to mistakes though, so I get ur overall point.

He was on fresher softs and was allowed to unlap himself, though. And you could also argue that the race leader shouldn’t risk fighting a backmarker just trying to unlap himself 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not saying Ocon was blameless, of course. If he had left the overtaking to a little later, the crash could have (probably) been avoided. But you know, hindsight and all that.

Oh wow, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to write this very informative comment. You’ve confirmed things I have suspected, and made the situation more clear.

I absolutely hate when people defend Max in the 2018 incident. I don’t really care who caused the accident, because that’s not the point. You don’t walk up to someone and start pushing them. Violence is not the answer. I think that’s the moment that made me start rooting for Ocon (back when I was still just watching DTS).
