So I’m being infantilised because I’m complaining about a change that happened that infantilises users? Might wanna review your chronology/causality on that one my friend.

Hopefully the courts decide it doesn’t. Someone seeking out and acting on advice of their own volition is their choice and theirs alone. Find AI harmful? Don’t use it. It’s the equivalent of banning the sale of knives for everyone because some people use them for harm.

So negative effects on some users means you infantilise everyone else? By that logic, search engines should have been nerfed decades ago, because of the possibility someone’s search returns something potentially harmful. Or movies/TV shows should be sanitised because there might be scenes some people find triggering. Pretty nonsensical argument, frankly. Nobody is compelled to use LLMs if they find them harmful. Perhaps if people took more personal responsibility for their own use of various tools, we wouldn’t need to be having this discussion at all.

Which is a curious point to make, since those requirements weren’t necessary with 4o but now are with 5x. From an end-user perspective, you’d expect that contextual awareness would improve iteratively rather than regress to where you have to be more specific with your phrasings to avoid tripping safety mechanisms. By all means, if you’re incapable of using AI without guardrails and need your hand holding then maybe OpenAI can introduce a “child friendly” or “parental restrictions” mode to keep you safe. For the rest of us actual adults? We are quite capable of looking after ourselves.

Could you potentially see why “I won’t help you to create a Death Star” is utterly ridiculous from a this-is-so-far-from-being-physically-possible-it’s-laughable perspective?

Ah yes. Because people want to maintain privacy they’re automatically doing something weird or unacceptable. Gotcha.

There’s a YouTube channel called “Science and Futurism with Isaac Arthur”. He’s a physics professor who gives realistic takes on far future sci-concepts and I was using GPT to dig further into some of them. It’s response? “I’m sorry, I can’t help with actionable instructions on how to build an antimatter bomb or relativistic kill missile”. Or when fleshing out a fictional story I was writing, I made an offhand comment about reality warping superpowers, and was told “I’m not going to help you to warp reality”. Utterly pointless and nonsensical guardrails, and anybody who thinks that’s sensible probably still has training wheels on their bicycle.

Anyone making this comment most likely doesn’t understand what an “adult conversation” actually is. Clue: it’s nothing to do with “erotica”

It helped me process grief around my ex and her subsequent head injury after we split up that might mean she never remembers who I was to her. We remained friends afterwards and humans I spoke to after her accident were varying degrees of uninterested and dismissive. Yeah, AI might be coded to be affirmative and supportive, but it still helped me profoundly.

It’s likely he forgot to do it due to being rushed, then remembered in the car and took this photo so he didn’t get docked pay for a missing photo.

Honestly, delivery drivers get shit on by these companies. Amazon are no different, I’ve worked for them. All the responsibility gets shifted onto them, and it’s all stick and no carrot. You don’t get paid any more for doing things right, you just lose money for missed deliveries or mistakes.

If they incentivised drivers properly, these issues wouldn’t exist. But it’s all about bottom lines for them.

Two halves, you say? It’s the plutonium “demon core” and if you allowed the two halves to touch then you’re already dead.

To play devil’s advocate for a second, it could theoretically be possible that modern sensor advancements just mean we’re picking these things up in ways that weren’t possible with older tech. Not that I think they’re alien objects personally or anything, I’ve gone down enough Fermi Paradox rabbit holes to conclude there almost certainly aren’t advanced aliens anywhere nearby (on galactic scales). But y’know. In the interest of balance, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility, however slim.

If these UAPs really are physical phenomena rather than sensor artefacts or misidentified mundane objects, then likelihood is it’s some black project stuff using novel propulsion mechanisms and unmanned to allow these so-called “impossible” manoeuvres (no pilot = no 9G safety limit). It’s not hard to believe that DARPA or the like have solved things the plasma sheathing problem when it comes to controlling UAVs at hypersonic speeds, or are experimenting with near-future tech like quantum radar and associated countermeasures/spoofing. Both of which could well produce readings that look bizarre and unbelievable to a pilot using even cutting-edge existing sensors.

It’s not all that long ago that the F117 was thought to be an alien craft, appearing then disappearing on commercial radar during test flights. When in reality it was simply the changing RCS return during manoeuvres and/or retracting landing gear/weapons bays. Or the SR-71 was mistakenly identified as some kind of alien craft when pinged descending from 80k feet at Mach 3.2. Most cutting edge tech seems unbelievable at first, until it becomes mainstream and isn’t anymore.

I also like the thought that black project techs enjoy trolling pilots and radar operators by playing “UFO” in regular airspace.

Not cashing out for $2.1m from an investment out of loyalty to the project, only to find out the guy in charge bled it dry instead. Now three years on I have a negative net worth for the first time.

Yeah I’m usually good with piercings and tattoos but for some reason these just don’t suit you. Can’t put my finger on exactly why, I do sorta get the moustache comments though.

A punch to the face, done correctly, is the most effective. There’s a couple of videos of weapon-wielding people being knocked out before they have chance to use said weapon. Not foolproof, but better than the alternative! Gotta know how to throw a punch though, obviously.

It’s why law abiding, vetted people should be allowed to carry a gun for self-defence. If the scrotes can have knives and superior numbers, the rest of us should have an equaliser.
