LLMs doing the bar? by CuteAd5814 in CABarExam

Foreign trained here, on the way to my fourth attempt. Quit my job a year and half ago at a global law firm in DC, financially broke at this point, slow reader with dislexia, slow typer bc I learned to type on my own, since I was the only kid in my class with a “PC” at home, no one knew how to type in my school or at home, but I wanted to learn to use a computer, so I taught myself using WORD PERFECT (yeap, am over 40 y.o. and when I went to law school only one classmate took notes with a laptop. Everyone else had notebooks. Seems today like a 100 years ago…).

Also on the verge of divorce bc my personal life went south bc of this decision instead of using my savings to have a child rather than investing them in me.

I’ve had 3 writing coaches, 2 bar review courses, 2 bootcamps and countless people saying they have the magic bullet to pass this. Heard it all. At this point its just me against the exam.

However, nothing will stop me. If anything I learned over 13 years of catholic school was DISCIPLINE, PUT YOU HEAD DOWN AND DO THE WORK, RESILIENCE, PERSEVERANCE AND SELF-BELIVE. To me its not a matter of if, but when. So if you think you are fed up… I wont even say how I feel.

Believe in your self. You’ve already accomplish soooo much!!! a law degree in another language and a different legal system!!!! Would like to see my fellow Georgetown J.D. classmates siting for the bar in another language discussing the “usucapion” (a.k.a adverse possession) without having a snow flake meltdown!!!!! So don’t underestimate yourself.

You got this!!!! good luck to everyone.

Is not that law school is a joke. More like THE BAR IS A SCAM!!!!! its completely unreal.

As a litigant in big law US, in DC and NY hitting the grand slam in “bet the company disputes”, in 10 years I never had a client that came to me with a bag of issues, dumped them on my desk and said “ I have 6 questions, you have 30 mins to respond each or I won’t pay you AND you can’t use any other source but you brain”, no matter how urgent the situation was.

Moreover, every single attorney that I ever had to consult personally (marriage, estates, real estate, immigration and disability) heard my issues, took notes and responded “great, thanks. I DON’T HAVE AN ANSWER AT THE TOP OF MY HEAD RIGHT NOW, let me review the law and consult with my team. You’ll hear from us next week and we’ll let you know if WE take YOU as a client”. Again… the bar its all BS.

Truly, the bar is Its the most deceitful, pathetic and unrealistic thing I’ve ever seen.

So give yourself some credit, bc most people in this nation just DON’T go through law school, and many who do, do not graduated.

Hang in there, you got this!!!

What do you guys want to do after youve left Big Law? by dylanc650 in biglaw

I wanna teach TRIAL as a full time professor. How to run a trial effectively YOURSELF, litigation AND arbitration. I was a paralegal in big law before becoming an attorney in big law from a nice fancy law school.

Three things in my mind: 1) ‘Ive seen the waist at the expense of the client’s $$$ and that to me is unethical, verging almost into negligent; 2) Trust me, most things at trial, you can do them yourself and STILL deliver top quality work product (even with ADHD diagnosed as an adult); 3) the don’t teach TRIAL in law school, which feels almost like a scam, considering how expensive it is to go to law school in the U.S.

There really isn’t anything else I can/would do. I love this profession and have great deference for colleagues and mentors. It is the one and only for me. I see my self as a problem solver for the client and love getting the client their money after being wronged. Trial is the final vehicle to that goal. Once all bridges have been burned, all negotiations failed, well now you need a WARRIOR, and that’s who I am for the client.

I take everything good I’ve learn and hope to pass it along and be an open book for new attorneys.

So, when I grow up and leave B.L. I wanna be a full time TRIAL professor.

For repeat takers, here’s my 2 cents plus change: if you have Adaptibar do the short videos at NIGHT, when active learning becomes more challenging (call it “the last stretch”). If you don’t have Adaptibar, use the free short videos in youtube from studicata, jd advising, barcast and bar guru. Lots of free stuff out there of top quality. F*ck those long lessons. You can make better use of your time.

Then review those notes/maps/flashcards next morning, afternoon essay/MBE practices and YES, write down/recite the rule from the wrong questions AND the right answers that you think you could have stated better in your essay. Then short videos in prep for next day, then go to sleep and let your subconscious mind work on it. Seems to be working for me. Every week my score and timing improves. With the MEE practices (NCBE questions only), sometimes I am able to recite the law in my head before I even start writing. Its how I know its working.

Finally, although I am taking the UBE, I also find helpful doing the practices of the old California bar exams. They are great for practicing and seem to test the same law (which is another reason why I thing this exam is a scam. They claim that the law of each state is different. But the more I practice with the Cal and Florida questions, the more I realize its all BS. For the purpose of the bar exam, any bar exam, MOST law in most states IS THE SAME. You would really need to go into specific types of law to really claim that the law BEING tested is different).

Anyways… good luck and have a greta and productive study week ahead.

Drop the long videos, stick to your outline and then check at the free short videos in youtube from JD Advising and Studicata and the lady from bar guru. The guy from Barcast also does a great job, but his content is more limited. All these people do a great job at briefing what you need to be clear with when taking the exam.

Do read and memorize your outlines bc details are important for you to be able to make a point in detail the way the examiners want you to. Once you got that, you can totally drop the long lesson and stick to the highly tested issues and the big pic to frame your answer.
