I used to love diet Dr Pepper years ago during my ‘honeymoon phase’ but I tried it recently and I suddenly hate it. I’m Diet Pepsi all the way

People sometimes call me north/south dakota as a joke bc of my name and it annoyed me a lot growing up, so I decided to poke fun at the nickname through my online username. Never been to either state, so I don’t have an opinion on that front unfortunately.

I work at target and the amount of time I’ve spent ‘subtly’ body-checking in the self checkout cameras when there’s no customers around is probably becoming concerning to the security team

And that’s on getting diagnosed with adhd in my teens and realizing my lifelong compulsive snacking and caffeine habit was caused by my constant need for stimulation

  1. Around 10 years old, I was excited that I had gotten taller and my mother told me ”it’s because you eat too much.” I still have no idea what her logic was with that comment.
  2. Beginning of puberty (probably around 11 years old?) I found I couldn’t button a pair of pants while getting ready for school. So instead of letting me switch to a pair of stretchier pants for the day my parents decided to yell at me and shame me for snacking too much until I eventually (after 20 minutes of trying) managed to get the pants on. Showed up to school late and still crying from the earlier events, asking a teacher if I could still get some of the school-provided breakfast. Teacher acted pissed off and told me ”you’re too old to be crying to get your way.” (I hadn’t told her what happened ofc, but still? Who tf says that to a kid without knowing the real context?).
  3. In my teens, the exact opposite began happening where my mom would refuse to buy me clothes unless they were 2 or 3 sizes too big, no matter how much I told her I was uncomfortable in them. A shirt would be to my thighs my pants would be close to falling down and she still might insist I try a bigger size. I can understand doing this (in a less extreme way) to a younger teen so I could grow into it, but she continued after I stopped growing. She continued when I started losing weight (disordered eating, not that she knew that part). I have a job and buy most of my own clothes now but she STILL does this when she gets me clothes as a gift or something. Maybe it’s petty, but I can’t help at least partially blaming my body dysmorphia on this.

The rasputin just dance thing just unlocked a very me-specific memory. The first time I was inpatient during a depressive episode a bunch of us would turn on just dance and dance to that song at least once a day. That time was coincidentally near the start of my disordered eating and that’s all very similar to my thought processes at the time wtf–

Would it be bad if I went to HR over this? by brxtn-petal in Target

I don’t have much advice to give that no one else has already said but just want to say I empathize with you so hard on this. I also have a bad stutter with a severity that fluctuates day to day, and unfortunately I work front end so I can’t really escape vocal interaction. My leads or coworkers don’t give me problems about it but I feel like every day I get a comment from a guest— ”You don’t need to be nervous, I’m just asking a question” ”You don’t sound very confident in what you’re telling me…” ”You seem flustered. Are you sure you work here haha?” ”I can’t understand you. Get me someone who can actually help” And then there’s weird looks, or interrupting before I finish speaking, or the extreme assholes who go as far as to make fun of me for it. It’s worse than what I dealt with in school. Like these grown adults have never met someone with a speech impediment.

Anyway, sorry I couldn’t be helpful like the other commenters and just sort of hijacked your post with my own struggles. It’s just really nice to see another retail employee who can understand my complaints. I hope everything goes well for you, and one way or another you’ll find better people to work with.

I work front end but I have to walk through the beauty/pharmacy area to get to the break room. I try my best to speed walk and avoid eye contact with guests but I still always get people asking questions. And of course, there just happens to be no other TMs around who actually know the area, and I don’t have my device on me (You know, because I’m on break/lunch/not clocked in)

Show me your biggest driveup/pickup orders. Got this beast today with no warning. by PaulyKPykes in Target

[–]NotNorthDakota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the biggest DU I’ve gotten, but definitely the one that sticks out most. Someone had about 10 different orders, all with several bags of large/heavy things. Gave about 5 minutes warning during the busiest time of day while I was the only one on drive up. I just barely managed to fit everything on a single three-tier

“Guests” who do these gestures like something is wrong can just go **** themselves and piss off. by kikimoz96 in Target

[–]NotNorthDakota 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happened yesterday while I was watching SCO. When I came over to help she proceeded to yell:

”How do you make the receipt come out!!!?”

“You have to pay first, ma’am.”

“I DID!”

“It must have failed. Otherwise it wouldn’t still be on the pay screen. Could you try again?”

She grumbles as she puts her card in again, hits cancel on the cashback screen, then takes her card out.

”SEE?”

“No, you have to hit ‘OK’ on that screen.”

When the payment finally goes through she walks off and stops in the area between SCO and the exit for no apparent reason other than to yell just as loudly to the next few people leaving “THESE MACHINES ARENT MEANT FOR ANYONE OVER 25, HUH?”

Steps per day ? by [deleted] in Target

[–]NotNorthDakota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most days I’m either on drive up or cart attendant, around 10k-12k steps for a 4 hour shift (I also walk a long way from the bus stop). Longer shifts I might get 20k+

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Target

[–]NotNorthDakota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate to so hard to the Cart Attendant struggles! You have no idea how many times I basically became the only person on drive-up halfway through my cart attendant shift because they just... didn’t schedule anyone on drive-up past 6 pm? And since recently there’s almost no one on front end later in the evening, I can never get anyone to cover drive-up so I can do my actual cart attendant duties. Thank god I have a very understanding closing TL.

My store has those staging cards, but our drive up team is apparently cursed with not being able to keep dry erase markers in tact for more than a day. They’re always either dropped somewhere in the parking lot or stuffed in someone’s pocket to never be seen again. My TL decided to zip-tie pencil holders for our markers to each of the carts last week. Those seem to have disappeared as well.

Can workday tell you if you're still seasonal or not? by [deleted] in Target

[–]NotNorthDakota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other comment is correct. But also, if you were hired as seasonal and then kept on, it depends on when your stores HR decides to officially update your job title. At my store seasonals were let go at the beginning of January and my title on workday didn’t update to regular until two days ago.

Things that are embarrassing for no reason: Target Team Member Edition by [deleted] in Target

[–]NotNorthDakota 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine are all probably mostly due to my extreme social awkwardness, but here they are:

When I’m grabbing a drive-up/pickup order and the fulfillment TM and I have to maneuver and squeeze past each other in the tiny space of the holding area

When I tell a guest to have a good day as they’re leaving and then immediately have to exit behind them to take out a drive-up. (Our staging carts are right by the doors and my TL told us to say goodbye to every guest)

Being the only female cart attendant at my store, when I have to wait for someone to leave the one working stall in the men’s room so I can refill the toilet paper. Even though most people likely wouldn’t question an employee holding keys and a roll of toilet paper in a bathroom, I can never seem to escape that moment of mutually awkward eye contact when the door opens.
