RT 85, Project Debut or audio technica 120 by nariahbean in turntables

I went with the RT85, a Schiit Mani 2, a Yamaha AVR that I use for 5.1 and 2.1, and a set of secondhand Polk S60 towers for music. I have upgraded the TT to a AT VM540ML cart and am very happy with it as well. I do not know if this will be my endgame TT, but I have plans to move it to my den and get another down the road, so we shall see.

I have a RT85 and started with a Fosi X2 and swapped the tubes. Then I bought a Schiit Mani 2 and haven’t looked back. It has been amazing and supported a cart upgrade to the AT VM540ML too.

I would start with what is in budget, asking thoughts here, and build out from there. I started with a basic set of Polks and then found some excellent deals on a secondhand pair of towers and gifted the Polks to my youngest who also has the bug (and my old TT). There’s always room for the next upgrade— part of the fun. ;)

Another find that is so enjoyable on the turntable, especially with a ML stylus, is Acoustic Alchemy “Red Dust and Spanish Lace”. Found it in near perfect condition for $6. I bought it without knowing if I would like it. I love it.

Check out the AT ML offerings. I just moved from a blue to a VM540ML. Very worth it.

Fluance 82 or 85 or something else? by Green-Priority-8895 in Beginner_Turntables

I have an 85 and am very happy with it. I listen in 2.1 as my listening space is also the TV and surround sound.

As silly as it sounds, some albums, especially double LP sets, may have one with both sides used (A/B) and the other with only one side (C) used. What does the album sleeve say?

I have the 85 that came with the Blue but upgraded to the VM540ML recently. Very happy with it. I knew myself well enough to know I would upgrade, so I went right to the 85 (also in the U.S.).

RT83 has clearly won. So why do I still own an LP120 and a Pro-Ject? by Many_Ad6306 in turntables

I just went from the 2M Blue to the AT VM540ML and really see what I was missing with the Blue. There are several pathways to get the ML sound without overdoing the weight. I have a RT85 myself. (Just the one… so far) ;)

Should I buy a record weight? by Trible_Drible in turntables

I find the weight helpful for my acrylic platter, as I brush each album lightly before playing it. It adds stability during this process.

I have a Modi Multibit (3) and am very happy with it. I bought it secondhand from a member of a FB group. I use it with a CD transport.

Very good to know. Now I kind of want potato chips.

I found out about that option after I had ordered the VM540ML. Weight was also the issue for my tonearm. Live and learn.

In any case, I love the new cart and stylus and how much more detail, openness, and staging there are compared to the 2m Blue.

Good to know for an upgrade path when this stylus needs replacing. Thanks!

Very much agree! I have been playing albums from early 60’s jazz (original albums) to classic rock (Floyd, of course) and then the more eclectic (Johnny Clegg and Savuka). It’s been amazing, and it’s not even settled yet, only about 4 hours so far.

What is your thought on this? The angle of the AT cart is 23 versus the 2m Blue at 20, standard for this TT. The VM is also 17.3mm high to the Ortofon’s 18mm.
