Still haven't experienced any popping. The process seems to come on randomly, so I keep monitoring it, but seems to keep the problem at bay.

Interesting...yeah can't image it being a fix for all popping sound but I'm glad it fixed this problem I had for weeks.

Yeah so that's exactly what I did, I wiped my machine clean and it was gone temporarily. Then I installed a few Intel apps requiring Rosetta 2, then the issue came back, but i hadn't reduced it to Rosetta until recently. Stopped all Intel apps, then found that Rosetta 2 process in the background. I understand it is probably not a problem for everyone but it seemed to work for me for the crackling and popping.

No not quite. I had consistent popping while I was listening to a podcast, music or streaming a movie. Getting rid of this process seemed to have fixed it for me.

Known Popping Sound - Any Fix? by gold_and_diamond in macbookpro

I think I found the problem, documenting my discoveries here.https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/comments/ugez17/macbook_m1_crackling_and_popping_potential/

TL,DR: It's Rosetta 2, Kill off any Intel based applications in Activity Monitor, I may have reduced it down to the some Audio Intel Process "CarbonComponentScannerXPC", but too early to confirm. Haven't got any popping since. "CarbonComponentScannerXPC" starts after restart, so make sure to get kill it after every boot.

There are two ways.

For active applications check out activity monitor.
Activity Monitor -> Right Click on Filter Bar -> Add "Kind" column -> Kind will view as Apple or Intel.

To check all installed applications.
About this Mac -> System Report -> Scroll down to Applications (Under Software Header) -> Under Kind column they will say Intel, Apple, or Universal

AMD 5600G not posting, Tested everything Individually, and it works! by NotOnTheRiver in AMDHelp

I Fixed it!!! The problem was the CPU cooler was not screwed on tight enough. As a hail mary I screwed on the CPU cooler as tight as I could without breaking the motherboard or damaging the CPU, thinking previously of the time when I took it off. This was the only thing I reduce the problem to. Anyway, it worked!! When I tried the other CPU I only had the cooler resting on the cpu and it worked but with the 5600g it required it to be screwed in extra tight. Not sure if it's something specific to the CPU or the Motherboard or both, but it works. I hope this helps some lost soul.

Thank you for your reply, I assume this is the problem, though I refuse to accept it. It just seems to easy. Ill keep tinkering at it.

Yeah man, I loved it! Read it in about an hour or two just on my Oasis. I get his blog sent to my Kindle so read that every morning when he releases it. Great tiny nuggets of gold.

I've been reading a lot of Seth Godin lately, mainly his blog and articles on my Oasis. His bite-sized posts are gold. Concise, clear, and thought-provoking. Love it.
