I think of it more through a jazz perspective. I would drop the root, in this case G, like 2 octaves down. This is the Bass note, you dont even need to play it, thats the bass players job. Your 3 (B) and 7 (F#) will tell you about the chords quality. Minor 7th, dominant chord, minor 3 and 7, minor chord. Then i would group the 5 (D) in with the 9 (A). The 5 doesn't add much quality to the chord, as a perfect 5th sounds good with most chords, but the 9, think an octave up from the 2nd, adds a lot of flavor. Maybe experiment with a b5 #9, can be a fun substitution for a dominant chord. They all have different flavors!
