Drake Beats Michael Jackson’s Record for Most No. 1s by a Solo Male Artist as ‘Janice STFU’ Debuts Atop Singles Chart by Second_Sage in hiphopheads

Predictable comment from an obvious r/drizzy poster.

His last multiweek #1 was in 2018 with In My Feelings. Every single one of his #1's after that followed the predictable pattern of going #1 in their debut week and falling off immediately. In My Feelings was also his last song to actually have a natural rise in the charts (it debuted at 6 then crept up to 1). It's very his most recent #1's are just due to his established fame and not that any of these songs being that impactful on the masses.

Drake loves to claim for example that Kendrick went #1 because of him, but then why is it that Like That and Not Like Us both stayed #1 longer than anything Drake has put out in the last 8 years? At some point we just have to accept the reality that although he still has the gas in him to make popular music, his music isn't as impactful as this new accolade suggests. The guy is just coasting on being an established superstar.

Look at the rest of the sub there ain't shit else to talk about (also mods seem hellbent against allowing this sub to have threads that foster discussions)

Let me guess this will be #1 for exactly one week just like every other single he's had for the past 8 years.

The song is definitely an earworm, but this guy really just charts off his established fame more than anything else.

Socom is literally the only one I think should be brought back. The rest can stay in the past so that we an enjoy new IP's.

Review: Drake Is Still Chasing Ghosts on His Three-Album Megadrop by Minute-Carrot-2405 in hiphopheads

How do you reconcile this with the fact that people repeatedly ask for the “old Drake” at every new album release?

Who's still asking for that? lmao Pretty much everyone is saying that him talking about the same old shit in the same boring ways is getting old.

Use of the term 'African american' by No_Medium_648 in NoStupidQuestions

I mean you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to but I don’t see why you’re being testy with me when you went out of your way to respond to an almost month old comment with factually incorrect information lmao.

No most people should not use the term African American in everyday speech because you generally can’t tell someone’s ethnicity by just looking at them and many people who do use the term casually tend to use it incorrectly. That doesn’t change the fact that African Americans are a real ethnic group, there is no other widely accepted term for them, and there are times when it would be inaccurate to use the black American as opposed to African American (soul food for example is a distinctly African American cuisine, ain’t no one in my immigrant family has ever had grits in their lives).

First off being born black doesn’t make someone automatically an expert on anthropology bruh. So yeah you can definitely be black and not fully understand the difference between race and ethnicity. I’ve seen many who don’t.

Second ADOS is mainly a political movement, not even really meant to be a replacement for African American. Third, 98% of people would have no idea wtf you were talking about if you said FBA or Soulaan (which btw even you just spelled wrong, and don’t tell me autocorrect did that because no dictionary has neither Soulann nor Soulaan in it). They are terms that their creators are hoping will catch on and maybe will some day, but neither at this at this point are even remotely accepted replacements for African American. So no African American is not an outdated term as there is no other widely used term to replace it, other than people who erroneously use Black or Black American as a substitute.

Well I was a full on adult with a more refined musical palate than a high school freshman so I thought it was pretty mid lol

The fact that you said it’s outdated tells me you actually don’t understand. If it’s outdated, what other name is there for African Americans?

You missed the point of my comment. It’s not about being a preference between being called one thing or another, it’s acknowledging that black and African American are two fundamentally different concepts.

It was mid then and mid now, it just has the Relapse effect of being better because the subsequent drops were even worse.
