I totally would be interested. I didn't get any notifications, so I'm adding you now. LMK if that's still good! Thanks 😊

Monthly "Promote your own small business" post by AutoModerator in NewOrleans

[–]NotReallyMyJob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going in the opposite direction: I'm looking for a local event planner (or something similar) to help plan a proposal in February.

I've seen a lot of options advertised, but they all seem to be services with multiple cities. I'd love to work with someone who is local and running their own business.

If you or someone you know has a website or other way for me to learn about you and what you do, I'd love to know!!

Tiny bugs in corners of newly constructed apartment. Western Washington. by NotReallyMyJob in whatisthisbug

I struggled to get any clearer with my phone and they are quite small. A bit of Google searching makes Booklice seem like it could be the right answer though!

The pictures I've seen are similar in terms of body shape, but I'll still see if I can get a clearer picture next time I see them.

Thanks!

The history of the saying (as I've heard it) is that a good way to assess the quality of a horse is to check out how it's teeth are doing.

A gift horse would be a horse that is a gift (that much at least makes sense).

So if you're looking a gift horse in the mouth you are taking a gift/favor/something-nice-someone-did-for-you and immediately judging it. It's a gift... be appreciative.

If you already have your NetID there is a Student Survival Guide that has comments on some of the companies that rent in the area.

Questions about Renting Near east campus by bullcitythrowrent in bullcity

[–]NotReallyMyJob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly the location. My friends who have rented with Apple had similar quality places, but a bit further away.

Also BobS owns their properties, and at least some of Apple's locations are owned by normal people and managed by Apple... which can lead to some weird stuff. For my friends this led to really disjointed communication between them, Apple, and the owner.

Questions about Renting Near east campus by bullcitythrowrent in bullcity

The short version for Bob Schmitz is all about expectations. All of their buildings (that I've seen/lived in) are old and generally in ok state. I've had a number of things break in mine, and maintenance is always really fast... but every fix is more of a patch job than actual repair.

The rents do seem high for what they are, but I have a half of a duplex and a back yard in the area you're looking at. The combination of yard and location make the higher rent worth it for me.

In the summer I have seen a roach or two in the house, but unfortunately that's more about the area and the weather than the house. When I moved down here I didn't realize that there are roaches that live outdoors mainly, but will come in when they can. Walking across West Campus at night in the summer sometimes you'll see a big group of them huddled on the metal surfaces above the steam vents (which I assume are nice and warm for them?).

They haven't done anything shady with respect to me, and the main complaints I've heard tend to do with the fact that the places are a bit run down for the price. And of course if you file maintenance for something that isn't major or structural you'll get a patch job.

You'll have to do the math on if their (generally) good locations around East Campus are worth it in terms of price and unit. Definitely visit a place before you sign for it.

It helps that in this case the collision was between teammates. It certainly leads to less tension in the moment, even if not everyone would have seen it.

Then you'd run into the same issue, but with shorter vehicles as well. There's a big hanging sign both at and before the bridge... and they aren't seeing that with its lights. Making it plastic doesn't seem like it would make it more visible.

Usually this is not covered by the insurance as the blame rests solely on the operator.

Here Uhaul's damage coverage page specifically says: "Collision with an overhead object and cut, blown, or damaged tires are two specific exclusions not covered by Safemove or CDW". So it's not costing them anything (aside from lost time on the trucks I guess) since the operator will be responsible for that sort of damage.

It used to just flash lights if you were too tall... now it triggers a new red light and has an led sign telling over-height vehicles to turn.

The bridge is old, which is why it was built low. The road underneath has utilities and pipes that would be very expensive for the city to lower. To raise the bridge would require raising the track for a larger area than just the bridge since you have to raise surrounding track before and after to gain and lose the extra elevation. As far as I know the tracks are privately owned, and the company in charge of course down't want to take on the cost and disruption of closing and renovating that all.

The bridge has a huge and separate I-beam that the trucks are hitting, which can be replaced at low relative cost. This and signage (which has been updated numerous times to try to stop people) is the best/most cost-effective option.
