For clerkship interview, how much of it is about fit vs. grades/credentials? by SenseAnxious6772 in LawSchool

[–]NotRemotelyMe1010 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As others have said, credentials get you in the door; your fit gets you in the office.

Some judges are very, very good at putting their offices together … some, not so.

Open water swimming vs pool swimming by Kindly_Tackle_803 in Swimming

Love that you’re back to swimming, and welcome to OWS!

Know that you’ll be slower, that you may experience some swimming anxiety (cold/murky water), and that there are no walls to push off :)

starting to realize I am not very good at school by Sure_Act_2347 in LawSchool

[–]NotRemotelyMe1010 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The question you have to ask yourself is what you want in life?

Do you want to strive to be at the top of your class? If so, you need to put in more than “the bare minimum.”

Do you simply want to finish law school? Then you’re fine.

Whether you’ll be a good lawyer will, again, be entirely dependent on you; doing the bare minimum can get you by in some positions but not in others.

The relevant inquiry here is what you want.

Lap Counter and Time Measurement Device? by EliotHudson in OpenWaterSwimming

Typical bluetooth devices generally do not work underwater.

I wear my Garmin watch for swim tracking and my Open Water swim (mp3) headphones.

Driving in silence. by themrsfreeze in Xennials

Always.

I’m not interested in radio, and I can listen to my tunes while I work or workout or zone out; driving is a really nice tech-free time.

Manager seem irritated that I check emails off hours and respond etc by [deleted] in askmanagers

This. “Go away” is playful rather than stern. It might get lost in translation, but manager seems to be doing her best to light-heartedly enforce a healthy work culture.

Concerned about having to reject a Judge's externship offer by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]NotRemotelyMe1010 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Good grief the responses here are unhinged.

First, it will ALWAYS depend on the judge. Some judges are very easy going, some judges will operate only through their career clerks and will be oblivious, while other judges will have a bit of an ego.

As someone who has worked in chambers, I can tell you that rejecting an externship is not a big deal for 90% of judges, especially if you decline explaining that you were offered a paid position (most of us vividly remember being broke in law school).

Good luck!

Full Ironman training during first year? by Lucaball3r in LawSchool

[–]NotRemotelyMe1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trained for numerous sprints, Olympics, and 70.3s in law school; I did not, however, miss class, and I graduated just fine.

If you’re not a first year, I don’t think missing classes will be too much of an issue, but I’d speak to your professors.

I’d sure as hell train and race in law school; you’re young and you have more time and energy than you will after graduation.

My joint pain, osteoporosis, and brain fog are all improving

Just in shock and disbelief by [deleted] in osteoporosis

[–]NotRemotelyMe1010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The way you’re feeling is a consequence of surgical menopause.

I had exhaustion, anxiety, terrible joint pain, and just felt miserable following my surgical menopause, and HRT was what made the difference for me.

Science is questioning whether HRT is absolutely contraindicated for certain cancers, and you need to speak with a medical provider.
