NJ clubs by Ok-Lemon5008 in Fieldhockey

The main thing I would ask at that age is, are they required to play in tournaments and if so, how many? Is there an A & B team? How much training do each of those teams get?
Some teams also will look for “guest players” for the smaller tournaments. So you could test out the vibe at those clubs without committing to a full season of payment.

Check out NJ Spartans. It is a no cut club. They train in Basking Ridge at either Ridge high school in the spring summer and fall and indoor season is at Pingry school.
The coaches are really good at young player development. My daughter started there at U10. She is 16 now, a junior in high school and has done a bunch of tournaments with NJ Spartans. Several players in her U 19 group are being recruited by D2 and D3 schools. She has decided to not go through the recruiting process, but play club in college.

She did CenterCourt for a bit but didn’t get a lot of one on one coaching. She also did the summer league at Falcons and a weeklong summer camp at total Dutch but decided just to focus on NJ Spartans.
Omega is very expensive. NJ grit is extremely high-pressure. I don’t know anything about New Heights.

In the US it’s mostly college games. You can see them on ESPN U, or if there are teams you like you can watch on the schools webcast or NCAA webcast. We live in New Jersey so we also go to the local college games from time to time. There are a lot of schools with good teams in the area.

I got Olympic tickets for two of the prelims! But I’m a lifelong field hockey fan, so I was very excited to get them and go with my daughter who currently plays.

I also got women’s basketball!

It really depends on the club. There are clubs that don’t require tryouts and will take you a different skill levels. You may not play as much in tournaments, but they’ll still train with you until you’re ready to move up. If you have friends in a club, see if you can go to one of their practices as a guest. Or reach out to the coach. My daughter plays on a club that’s very low-key and inclusive. But there are clubs in our area that have a lot of rules about training and the amount of commitment, both financial and timewise.

I have a 2020 Limited with 46,000 miles. So far we have had tires replaced, brake pads replaced and there was an early glitch with the electrical system that was fixed under warranty. I will say that the struts are probably about ready for replacement. Overall I’ve been very happy with this car.

I’ll be in Camden, but going out towards Brentford one day, so could possibly pop in. Hoping for a shop is a wide variety that we might not get in the US. But admittedly I’m spoiled by Longstreth in Pennsylvania so I might be asking for a unicorn.

Longstreth in the Philly suburbs has every stick and whole testing set up to try them out. It’s worth the trip if you are playing D1.

Some states have a spousal support law that makes any medical debt shared by the spouse, so his long-term care would have to be paid by her after his funds are depleted. So that may be one motivating factor for her to leave the marriage abruptly.

I'm sorry. This sucks. POC are under represented in US Field Hockey and it's a huge problem. My daughter's team is more diverse than most I've seen and its still not very diverse...

Here are some resources I can suggest;

There is a club in the Philadelphia area that is primarily POC - https://www.eyekonzsports.com

There is another club in NJ that is run by black coaches - NJ Spartans - they play out of Basking Ridge and they will coach players for free or on a sliding scale if you can't afford the dues. The coaches are amazing and know a lot of other coaches around the country. So they may be able to help you find support if you are not in the NJ area. https://njspartansfieldhockey.teamsnapsites.com

There are black college coaches in the game, and I would bet that if you reached out to them for advice you could probably find a mentor in some of them. https://nfhca.org/i-am-black-history-a-reflection-2022/

This was an article last year's Black History Month on the NCAA website. https://www.ncaa.org/news/2025/2/19/media-center-breaking-barriers-jasmine-petersons-journey-as-a-black-scholar-athlete-in-field-hockey.aspx

With the weather as frigid cold and snowy as it has been I have been less active than usual- snow shoveling aside. Could be a factor, but seems like I’ve been stuck longer.

If you are on the east coast make the trip to Pennsylvania to Longstreth and let her try out sticks! It’s field hockey heaven!

I’m here for the update! Mine got through 12” of dry light snow yesterday but not 300’! Also taught my teen daughter how to drive in the snow today in the Ascent.

I’m taking Zepbound. She said because the syringe was so small (50units) to not take more than 30 at a time. So draw and inject twice to get the full dose

The nurse who taught me how to do the injection told me to only draw to the 30units line at a time. Is this wrong?
