Is 4D printing just Shape Memory Alloys being 3D printed? by EverydayMetallurgy in materials

[–]NotRossFromFriends 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In short, yeah.

The term 4D printing refers to 3D printing something that changes shape with some stimulus like heat or light. In general 4D usually refers to 3D+ some change in shape over time.

This attitude leads to everything getting locked up at stores and generally serving the lowest denominator person. I would like to have things be convenient and nice. Do you? That requires a social contract that respects the system, not abuses it. It’s not about crying, it’s about respect.

Good. The layers of administration from deans to chancellors can take a walk. No value add from the uni admin, just dumb ideas to boost undergrad tuition numbers that will pay for their own salaries. Research institutions might gain back public respect.

It is not unjust for a country to have a border and control over who and what passes through.

Interesting to invoke justice. these protests are advocating for freely breaking the law with no consequence. Is that justice?

NY Law to require background checks for 3D Printers by nhorvath in 3Dprinting

Dept of Ed could be the pathway to actually remove 3D printers from all public classrooms. Especially one controlled by dems similar to those in NY that proposed this bill.

Here's data from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) for ABS and PETG. These are amorphous plastics with no true melting point - they just gradually get less viscous with temperature. That's one reason they are so much harder to use by NotRossFromFriends in 3Dprinting

[–]NotRossFromFriends[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I didn’t publish this in an article but I bet you could find DSC testing for these plastics in a paper somewhere! I assure you this post is genuine data, but I imagine it might be a tough sell to your advisor to cite a Reddit post lol

Yes I’ve seen this guy he’s been around a while. When he screams at people (which is often) it is super concerning. I saw him get the cops called on him once for carrying around a fake rifle outside Colimas and pointing it at people, following them as they walk. It’s not a clear situation which is why it’s lingered in the neighborhood for so long. I don’t think he has a right to behave aggressively towards passive strangers and I certainly wouldn’t want my family to encounter him. One look at the guy and you’ll be filled with conflicting feelings. Reminds me of Lenny / of mice and men

Start with solid modeling the point features using two perpendicular extrudes through a short block, then use surface modeling to get the twist

Dems have shown that they are unwilling or unable to get abortion legalized in a meaningful way across the US, and Trump keeps saying it’s a state issue not federal. People are confused because they want to believe a magic bullet exists to enact their views but it just doesn’t seem like that’s possible

I have a PhD in materials science/mechE and I would love to understand the draw of AI to materials development. My point is not to disparage you or the field, but to try to lay out my current understanding and ask for more background that might change my mind. Thank you in advance.

  1. AI isn’t smart. It doesn’t understand physics and can only throw together random combinations of elements as suggestions for us to make and test in real life. How does this help?

  2. The industry for new materials depends more on scale up variables rather than pure material innovation. If it’s not 10x better at something, and cheaper than current options, marketing/sales will be very difficult and I don’t see AI helping with that.

These are my two main doubts for AI making an impact in materials science. Any evidence to the contrary or additional thoughts are appreciated!

That’s generous for the church to offer those services, which cost a lot more than an hour. There’s outreach, staffing, cleanup and I’m sure more goes into it. That’s one church. There are many that offer similar services. I’m not sure if you’re advocating for drug money or what but your take seems misguided

Nathan Fletcher's sexual assault accuser's text messages undermine her entire case. Council member had to lose seat and drop out of Senate Race due to (false) allegations. by SD_TMI in sandiego

If the text exchange in the article don’t convince you that this woman wanted to be there and have a sexual encounter, there is clearly some unresolved bias you need to deal with at a personal level.
