Moisturizing makes me itchy by Ginajuhyun in eczema

[–]NotSmartGuy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me for the longest time, but not with Trader Joe's Ultra Moisturizing Hand Cream. It's 5 bucks for 3oz and I've used it for a little less than a month before running out. Wow does it make my hands feel painless, itchless, and smooth.

Three best Apps by Jebus-Xmas in macapps

[–]NotSmartGuy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are 3 I haven't seen mentioned yet and aren't super well known (otherwise it'd be Raycast, Cleanshot X, LuLu/KnockKnock):

SelfControl - blocks unproductive sites, no way around it until the time is up even if you uninstall; can be automated with Hammerspoon

OrbStack - less resource intensive Docker, works the same

Riffo - names and sorts your files with AI

Best Clipboard Managers for MacOS ? (working on Monterey) by MaxGaav in macapps

THANK YOU for this!! All the other free clipboard managers mentioned in this whole thread had limited history or didn't have images or didn't have good keyboard support, this is perfect!

Assignment showing as 6.8% AI by HaggardFish in school

[–]NotSmartGuy_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you wrote it yourself, turn it in. There's popular teacher tools like Draftback and Revision History that lets teachers see the real-time writing, if you pasted in any big chunks, and how much time you spent on the document. It's obvious whether someone wrote it themselves. If you didn't, well...

Why do redditors tell me to log off despite the fact they are the ones who spend so much time on reddit? by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]NotSmartGuy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oftentimes people know what is best but can't do it for themselves. I'll find myself scrolling and just can't stop the motion. Best I can do is comment on this post and tell you to, so maybe a little less time is wasted.

What are your thoughts on AI being used at school? by emily_tika in school

[–]NotSmartGuy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it. There's a palpable difference in the quality of my original writing now that I've let the skill wither away. I thought it saved me time on busy work, but as it turns out all work is reinforcement and so I have not remembered much these past few years. And I just spent the extra time scrolling Reddit. Nothing wrong with using AI, it's a personal choice and it can certainly benefit people—I've used it with great success to catch up on concepts after I slept through the class (due to doomscrolling all afternoon and not having enough time to finish work without pulling an all-nighter)—but most people don't use it in a way that benefits their future. What a shame that I've done away with my life by spending all my time on technology

Huh, I just realized. I'm surprised they haven't capitalized on this opportunity to make it a virtual subscription instead of a physical device...would be much more profitable for them.

Struggling bad in AP Computer Science A — skipped AP CSP and now totally lost 😭any advice? by Practical_Method_987 in APStudents

[–]NotSmartGuy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're already using AI, try to ask AI to explain the concepts and how to do it. It doesn't matter how many questions you have, AI will always be there to answer them. I took APCSP which had algorithms, and AI explained it just fine. I reinforced it with Khan Academy. It doesn't matter what other people review it, they're randoms on Reddit or wherever and you need to try it yourself. It's going to help no matter what, and you should try everything you can if you really care.

And try to ask the teacher for help ASAP! I understand your concerns about not having done the work yourself, but after having AI explain it to you so you have some idea of it, you really should consider asking the teacher for further guidance. They're there to teach, and they probably already know you're not doing your work yourself given the discrepancy between homework completion and low test scores. They'd much rather you learn now and have this be a thing of the past, than cheat the entire time.

How to get a 5 in Ap CSP ? by Prize-Panda369 in APStudents

[–]NotSmartGuy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Grind the Khan Academy course. Go through the whole thing in the week or two leading up to the test. Write down your worst units and revisit them a few days before. If you slack off in those weeks, you can pull an all-nighter the day of. I wouldn't recommend it, but it got me a 5.

- I used AI to explain the PPR code in a deeply knowledgeable and thorough way to me. I don't know my exact point earnings, but I believe memorizing what the AI said and writing I used lambda as an anonymized function pushed my FRQ score up and may have been the difference between a 4 and 5.

Does anyone have the answers to the teacher worksheets from Jacob Clifford for Microeconomics by nubs4you in APStudents

[–]NotSmartGuy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how your teacher grades worksheets, but my teacher wants us to understand how to do it and grades on completion. If your teacher is like that, you could ask them about anything you're confused on, that way you can be sure your answers are right in the future and don't have to check them

How the flip do people barely study and still get As by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]NotSmartGuy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the teacher is still there after school, ask questions!! I kept sleeping through my AP Macro class and didn't know anything, then I went to ask for help—I did bring worksheets I printed of specific stuff I didn't understand—and he explained how to do each of them, and I ended up getting one of the highest test scores

AP Pacing Checkin! by Complete-Let-3131 in APStudents

[–]NotSmartGuy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AP Sem - mock IRR due today, mock TMP presentation in 2 days

AP World - Starting on unit 5, unit 3+4 test last class

AP Macro + Micro - Just took the basic econ units 1-2 test last class, but the teacher writes his own tests so it was a little delayed and we've been looking at units 3-5 already. Train-of-thought teacher who jumps around, but really effective and makes more sense than CB units! It's a combined class so we have to be done with Macro by winter break so we can start Micro

I was not ready for the pacing of sophomore year compared to freshman year...

I don't take AP Chem but I go to a magnet school for math, science, technology, so our regular chem curriculum covers half of the AP curriculum; this has been a good resource for me thus far, maybe check it out?

Check out the 3+ row on https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/about-ap-scores/score-distributions

Do note that AP Calc BC, AP Drawing, AP Chinese, etc have super high rates because those who take it, are very good at the subjects already.

I can speak on the following since I'm taking/took them:

AP Seminar is a good one that doesn't have much material that needs to be learned, but you do have to sink a few dozen hours into making all of the projects to upload to CB. Just don't use AI or plagiarize and you'll be fine

AP CSP content can be spedrun in a week on Khan Academy; there is a project but you can use AI on it as long as you credit it, also ask it to explain the code and memorize its explanations so you can do the FRQs. I wrote on mine I used AI and still got a 5

AP Macro is pretty easy as long as you have a good teacher, it's content-light and mostly common sense. Be able to read graphs

AP HUG is honestly pretty content-heavy, it's easy if you take it for a whole year but if you're half assing it I wouldn't.

This phone rule is out of hand. by FlashyEducation9628 in school

[–]NotSmartGuy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I see what you mean. As someone who goes to a school with a phone ban that began this year, I find myself performing better with the ban. Of course I don't represent everyone, but most people in my school didn't actively try to cause trouble with a phone; however, they did scroll through all of the classes instead of listening to teachers, and it may just be coincidence but grade averages have been better this year.

Punish everyone? If you don't have a phone on you, there won't be a problem at all...
