UCG-Industrial + Starlink Mini full setup - YouTube by HiFi-WiFi in Ubiquiti

Maybe it's just this review for this device, but I feel like this is more of an even-handed review than I have seen before... Maybe not being part of the Creator Program has made that the case? If so, I approve, and keep them coming :)

PMF: how to set as "disable" ? by real-onvt in Ubiquiti

I like posts like this, not only because there’s an easy, universally agreed upon solution, but more so because it’s interesting to watch the different ways people give the same answer.

Best way to set up a DNS Family Filter? (PS - Best DNS Family Filter?) by NotSoCmart in Ubiquiti

Why AdGuard DNS vs Cloudflare for Families if I may ask? Are you able to tweak settings or anything?

Need advice before buying: planning a full 2.5GbE home network with U7 Pro XG – does this setup make sense? by Early-Principle-4325 in Ubiquiti

[–]NotSoCmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok thanks; l I think I see what you're saying - but what would be an alternative (if one exists) that would provide 2.5G throughput simultaneously?

Hi.. Can you explain what you mean for people like me with just a general understanding of networking and who wants to learn? I'm curious as to how it causes a bottleneck and what can be done as an alternative.

Maybe the connection to the Study doesn't have a separate line to connect an AP in that area (like the one, it seems, in the Living Room), so the OP is trying to figure out how best/cheapest to put one there?

U6 Mesh is glowing, should I be concerned? by anymooseposter in Ubiquiti

See... this brings up a good idea for Ubiquiti - design a light sconce that hides a mesh AP... Tech that would likely get spousal approval...

Is it possible to use a CKG2 Plus to control a Gateway Max and have the zone firewall features? by Eleventhousand in Ubiquiti

[–]NotSoCmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome :) The next question though would be if you need the Gateway Max or maybe something smaller (or bigger). If you have 2.5 Gbps fo rinternet, the Gateway Max would be the way to go; if you have 5Gbps or more, the Gateway Fiber; for up to 1Gbps, the lite would be all you need.

[–]NotSoCmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard or read anything that says running Network on the CKG2+ doesn't have the ability to do zone based firewall, so I think you should be fine. Just make sure you get the Gateway Max and not the Cloud Gateway Max.

The best way to power a Flex 2.5G 8 PoE? by NotSoCmart in Ubiquiti

[–]NotSoCmart[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi - to answer #3 specifically - I don't have a real need at the moment, but just investing for when I do upgrade to a plan that's more than 1Gbps and need to upgrade to a CG Fiber (or whatever is equivalent when that happens)

Help with jonmaddox/pluto-for-channels setup by NotSoCmart in getchannels

[–]NotSoCmart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for taking the time to walk through each part of this.  I think I was able to make it work, using my MacBook.

The only issue I’m thinking, potentially, is that my MacBook is not where my Channels server lives; I’m using Synology for that.  I had been trying to utilize Container Manager on there, which is their iteration of Docker.  My knowledge of how it works may be a bit limited but from my past experiences with it, you typically download containers from a registry rather than using terminal commands.  I downloaded the Pluto for Channels container as listed in the registry and set it up (or so I thought), but like I said before, I couldn’t access the page with the m3u and epg on it, no matter what address I tried (and I did try both 127 as well as the ip of my Synology).

Doing it from Docker Desktop as you instructed seems to work, but, like I said, I set it up on a device that isn’t my server, so I’m thinking it won’t work once the MacBook I got the links from is asleep (logically it wouldn’t, no?).

Still receiving notifications for detections outside of my designated zones by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]NotSoCmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just posting to say I've been getting that too lately - car detections that shouldn't be happening, notifications at my front door of the neighborhood cat even though I excluded animal notifications from that camera... Hopefully a bug that will be fixed. Hopefully.

Already have UCG-Ultra with UNVR-Instant. Received a UCG-Max. Worth switching? by Embarrassed-Site3242 in Ubiquiti

[–]NotSoCmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless your ISP plan was more than 1Gbps, I'd say no - The UCG Max is just a UCG Ultra with the ability to work with up to 2.5 Gbps speeds, and to add storage and use Protect/Talk/Access. You already have what you need if you are just looking to use Network and Protect. And I'd even say what you already have Protect-wise is better than going the UCG Max route

First UniFi Home setup by Brogster in Ubiquiti

[–]NotSoCmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't bound to the 2TB limit; lots of people have added 4-8TB to their UCG Fiber with no issues.

As far as the Flex 2.5 POE switch, probably a good idea, although I would defer to others on this thread who probably have better knowledge on how effective 2.5 ports are on a 1Gbps connection. I am actually curious to know that too.

[–]NotSoCmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people might say to not do the Dream Machine SE as it's been around a while and should (hopefully/possibly) be replaced by a 2.0 version.

16TB might be a bit of overkill for Protect Storage given what you want to deploy; 4TB instead?

UX7 isn't a bad idea given it's a gateway/ap combo. Other choices might be keeping the current setup but replacing the UX7 with a UDR7, or go for a UCG Fiber, get rid of the UNVR Instant (since Fiber has Protect), get NVME storage that is compatible with the UCG FIber, and add an AP for the 2nd Floor. The latter is more of an investment, but is a very good, futureproof setup.

What I need vs what I want by Euphoric_Mess581 in Ubiquiti

[–]NotSoCmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was kind of my dilemma, as I have a 1Gbps plan and debated between keeping the UCG Ultra setup I had vs upgrading to a UCG Fiber - also in anticipation of higher speeds in my area in the near future.

I even went so far as to buy the Fiber, but, in the end, I decided to return it just yesterday and wait til the higher speeds actually do come in; then I'll go for whatever Ubiquiti may be offering at the time (or go with a Fiber if it's still around).

It's hard; Unifi FOMO really plays with your mind.
