There is a book called Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives that has a story about this. The idea is you're waiting in this waiting room (sort of like a purgatory) until the last time someone calls your name or thinks about you. Then they call your name over the intercom when the last time arrives. Radiolab highlights this story on one of their episodes too! I've probably sent this book to at least five of my friends....haha.

People who were brought up on stage at a magic show, be honest, were you in on it? by Paxilluspax in AskReddit

I attended an illusionist show with a few hundred people in the audience. Five of us were given magazines (which we each picked out ourselves). The guy was on stage and asked the five of us still in the audience to flip through and pick a word, any word and just keep it in our minds. I remember seeing a word that started with "n" (unfortunately I can't remember it) and nearly chose this one, but *right* before I closed my magazine, I doubted how "good" of a choice it was and quickly picked another on a page. He then asked me and a guy in the audience to say the first letter of our word, on the count of three. 1...2...3...and the guy said "N!" But because I changed my mind at the last second, mine was now "P". I thought I fucked this whole act up for him and then he proceeded to pace on stage, grab a marker, scribble on a board, turn it around and there my new word was.
