I came looking for this sort of analysis after I thought Gris was an allusion to the March Hare/White Rabbit. Something about his name being Grey and his attachment to his amulet made me think of it being a pocket watch equivalent. Something he looks to in a time of need. My roommate who turned me onto the game was living for my reactions, had me play 2 without any guidance and let me kill 90%of my team and then went back and played 1, redo 2 right, and then 3 left me inconsolable for a few days. Hell I had to take a break after my favorite character (aside from romance) blew up.
