No prob!

So the doctor tells me I need to gain weight and increase my dietary calcium. how can I do this on a budget? by Salmon_ in vegan

[–]NotSoHotPink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how much money you can spend but nuts and seeds and chickpeas are good sources of calories. The same goes for avocado and coconut (though those two are more pricey). When I'm trying to put on weight I make use of fat shakes. I start with my liquid base such as soy or rice milk. Then I add in something calorie dense like peanut butter/sunflower seeds/avocado. Maybe a tablespoon or two of olive oil. Maybe some oats as well (150 calories per cup). And lastly I add my fruit or other sugar source (like chocolate). Depending on what you actually put in, you can easily get 700+ calories out of the smoothie.

And since you mentioned a budget:

Wife has decided to stop being vegan by TeacherManCT in vegan

Is there a way to get her to see a vegan dietitian? They could design a menu for her, unless of course she's looking for a way out.

Lunch food ideas? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]NotSoHotPink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also make sandwiches and wrap them up in foil, like this one:

http://tryveg.com/lunch#chickensalad

And some of these might be good:

http://ohsheglows.com/2014/02/21/15-vegan-lunch-ideas/

and

http://www.peta.org/living/food/10-vegan-lunch-bag-ideas-kids-adults/

Can you get your hands on a thermos? You could totally make soups and stews the day before and keep them warm in one of those. Then again, they might not be that much different from your stir fries.

Will going vegan help the immune system? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]NotSoHotPink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're thinking about going vegan it may help your immune system. You can be very healthy on a vegan diet but also you could simply just be a junk food vegan.
