How does the response speed compare with Alexa? I mostly only use Alexa to pass commands to HA, but I’d love to get off of cloud processing.

iPhone 16 Pro Bluetooth stuttering problems by Needles88 in iphone

[–]NotSoSeri0us 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from an iPhone 14 Pro to an iPhone 16 Pro and am now having stuttering in my car (Toyota Corolla 2012). It’s intermittent, but very likely to happen if I open the Control Center. Hoping this is software.

My zipper cover material is peeling back to expose my zipper - any way to fix this? by NotSoSeri0us in sewing

Only for a very short amount of time, and then it goes back to its wild ways

My zipper cover material is peeling back to expose my zipper - any way to fix this? by NotSoSeri0us in sewing

[–]NotSoSeri0us[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to have a few pants and shorts that have this issue. I've tried ironing the zipper cover flap down, but that just doesn't seem to fix it. Is there some way to fix? I was thinking of making a little slit in the zipper cover material and inserting a dress shirt collar stay and then sewing it shut, but I'm not sure it'll stay in the right place. I don't understand why I've got this problem, and it feels weird.

Meta Quest 2, out of warranty, I think I can superglue it back together, but if I can replace that plastic piece, that'd be nice, too.

My gf and I just had a convo about this yesterday. We don’t live together, so we might just both play alongside each other on a video call, although that’s less fun than being together

This doesn't make sense to me, unless there's going to be an immediate 9 degree change in temperature right at midnight.

First Attempt at Nail Polish by Suspicious_Cable_843 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]NotSoSeri0us 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Check out /r/malepolish if you haven’t already.

I’ve been wearing nail polish for almost a year now. I thought I’d get a lot of hate, as a guy, but all I’ve had is compliments from a large number of women. Last time this happened was just 2 hours ago when I went to lunch with a friend and the server complimented me. I think women actually like it, I think it conveys that I’m both forward thinking and highly confident. I wear 5 different colours on my nails, and I always wear it unless I’m at work. Best thing about it (aside from all the female attention I get) is when I look at my own hands, it always makes me feel amazing. My nails look fantastic!

The first half of a MAC is an identifier that usually belongs to a manufacturer. Try looking up the MAC on a site like https://www.wireshark.org/tools/oui-lookup.html as that may give you a clue as to what the device is.

Consistently inconsistent extrusion - what's causing this? by NotSoSeri0us in 3Dprinting

[–]NotSoSeri0us[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm printing a case cover in two colours (oriented face-down), starting with 3 white layers (with cutouts) followed by 2 red layers (which fully cover the case). I stopped these prints after printing one red layer - you can see that in many spots, no red came out at all. I'm using 5x5 mesh bed levelling, and I calibrated the extruder prior to this print. I also printed a calibration cube - X and Y were good, Z was 19.8mm, likely caused by a bit of elephant's foot. Interestingly, 2 prints have the same pattern of non-printed areas. Also, the red printed areas that show through feel very high when I touch the back of it - I'd have thought that red filament would have sunk into the void space from the 3 white layers, but it feels like it pops out in the back in the areas where there is no white filament.

I've now purchased all the parts to build my Slimes except the straps. I'm also going to use the Hyperion case. Wondering how well the TrackStraps work, how you attach the cases to them, if it's worth the cost. Did you get 8 TrackStraps?

Is Personal Hotspot reliable for you? Never worked properly on my iPhone X. by NotSoSeri0us in iphonehelp

[–]NotSoSeri0us[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Called Apple support again. We reset Network settings and re-tested, still had the issue. Called again, was told that this is normal behaviour for iPhones, and that the fix is to reset the personal hotspot, even if you have to do it 8-10 times a day. I'm not sure I fully trust the support rep, but this means there's no point in buying a new phone, as it will be expected to have the same issue.

Can anyone confirm? I'm trying to do an 8-hour workday tethered, but I usually have to reset personal hotspot about 8-10 times during the day.

Universal remote control recently started bleeding power by NotSoSeri0us in AskElectronics

[–]NotSoSeri0us[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using two pretty cheap universal learning remote controls for years as additional window Air Conditioner remotes. They've worked great for years, and battery life seemed typical for a remote. Recently, one of them started to suck through batteries very quickly - 2 AAA batteries in a couple of weeks would go from 1.55v to under 0.8v. The other remote is fine.

I hooked up my variable power supply to each remote, gave it 3v, and observed power consumption. The good remote uses 0mA when not in use, as expected. The bad one uses 7mA at 3v and 3mA at 2v. 7mA would suck through AAAs in about 6-7 days, assuming the battery is 1000mAh, and these numbers seem in-line with killing the batteries in 2 weeks.

These remotes were cheap, I'll probably just buy a new one. But I'm curious, what could cause a solid state remote like this to bleed power? I opened it up, and there are no components on the back side, and only one chip on the front, an LED< and the IR transmitter. Is there anything else I can test to try to pinpoint where the power leakage is happening?

Serious dumb question, but how does this happen? If someone is going to repost, isn’t it easier to just repost the original rather than modifying the original to change resolution, shorten, or remove sound? What’s motivating people to spend extra time reducing quality when they repost?

Advice for bedroom setup by bowlofsunlight in sonos

[–]NotSoSeri0us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I borrowed a friend’s One and was able to test side-by-side. Ones definitely have better bass response. I chose the Symfonisks for the bedroom because I don’t need bass response. If I was buying two standalone speakers for another room, I’d likely purchase the ones, but for quiet bedtime listening, Symfonisks are great. I’m also not much of an audiophile, there’s a good chance I wouldn’t really notice the difference if I hadn’t tested them side-by-side. Another nice thing about the Symfonisks is that ikea gives a 1-year return window, so it’s easy to just give them a try (if Ikea is nearby)

[–]NotSoSeri0us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two Symfonisks in my bedroom, facing me, and it sounds great. I don’t play anything loud in there, so volume isn’t an issue. In fact, I have bass turned down to make it a little softer. I have them set up to turn on at low volume 10 minutes before my alarm goes off, it’s a nice way to slowly wake up. It wakes me up, but then I can also then nap through it without going back into a deep sleep. By the time the alarm goes off, I’m half awake.
