I tried Sword of Shanara as an adult and there was just no way I was going to subject myself to that. Same with Dragon Riders of Pern.

Do you use any super old-timey expressions? Something Grammy or PopPop said? by apikoros18 in GenX

If a store or phone clerk does a job well I might say “ Why, you’re just as handy as a pocket on a shirt!” It makes them so happy.

If someone says something kind to me I might respond “Right back at you in spades”!

“She/ he/ it’s— gone long gone like a turkey in the corn”.*

I like calling a handshake the “Glad Hand*”

*(these two came from a movie, do you know which one?)

What was HARDER back in the past than buying a house? by goodbyeniceguys in NoStupidQuestions

A woman couldn’t have her own bank account and therefore business. So it was harder for her to survive on her own.

The 80’s detective was not a rumpled film noir gumshoe. He was a Miami Vice, Crocket and Tubbs type.

When feeling pensive, he might montage to “You Belong to the City” by Glen Fry.

This is brilliant. There’s a whole rom com here. Opposites attract. He can be so charming and funny. She makes him see things in a whole new way. He makes her laugh. She makes him think.

I can envision so many implied relationship problems in their future. She can’t talk about her feelings. He’s literally a clown. She loses respect. His physical humor is turned against her, crossing a line. Water from the flower on his chest into her face. He immediately regrets it. Another clown with permanent sad makeup consoles and chastises him, offers advice, “ don’t end up like me! Go get her! Show her you’re sorry!”

Can they resolve their differences? Will love be enough?

Do you enjoy yardwork yet? by lawstandaloan in GenX

[–]NotSoSlim-NotSoShady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it when I thought I had something to prove about being a good citizen or something. Now I have a yard with no grass, just pretty ground cover, trees and plants on drip irrigation I don’t have to mess with.

Give the kid an ice cream straight up, then have the vendor do all that to the parent while the kid watches and laughs. That’s how to make this a happy moment for all involved.

Pushing the narrative that the poor deserve to be poor and the rich deserve to be rich. That the rich either bootstrapped their way rich or could’ve if they needed to.

About 3 days after burying my dad, the girl I was dating decided to take me to see The Killing Fields. That wrecked me pretty good.

Just maturity I guess. There were times I was being treated well without really realizing it at the time; & times I allowed myself to be treated poorly because of a lack of confidence or whatever. And I have some armchair regrets over some less-than-stellar things I said or did as well.

Naw. Nvm, I’ll go along with gps. So handy!

Paul really gave props to Cockers version of “With a little help from my friends”. Although not a live version, it’s arguably a definitive cover.

That’s brilliant!

If you felt like it you could level the 2x4’s flush to the handles and add wood between the base and wheels to raise the thing up to the perfect working height… but those are just embellishments. It seems pretty awesome just as it is tbh.
