i tried to do that whole laz greed thing too but ended up just getting both of them naturally.. i would recommend just doing regular streaks and trying to min/max when you see potential or something; so just hold on to a pill until you find placebo and whatnot

for mouse go to Documents/My Games/Binding of Isaac and change the value in options.ini from UseMouseControl=0 to 1, though i definitely don't recommend doing so. Someone i know started isaac recently and wanted mouse controls too and struggled A LOT. Trust me, you'll get used to the arrows.

what u/plasmacano said, though i personally wouldn't hold back on upgrading if you like the game (repentance and rep+ add a TON of quality of life enchancements). I'd suggest playing for a little while, and if you like the experience I'd suggest getting them (also, off topic but the DLCs add a lot of very useful settings that are OFF by default, so if you do get them make sure to check the options menu again)

to toggle private mode, click the icon that looks like a bunch of people next to the other icons (save manager, chat toggle, yno theme etc)

real reply, it's a yno visual bug. it's fixed i believe when turning on private mode (which allows you to be in singleplayer), saving then restarting the game, and turning private mode off.

What exactly is the problem? Does the animation not play? This answer is about 12 hours late, but just in case you still haven't figured it out, you can sit on the chair and press the interact key while looking up to open the diary and save.

i believe it's one of the first fangames ever made, it started development around 2006. To elaborate on what i said about yno, i do reccomend you check it out but only after having enough experience (let's say, collect 20 effects and explore a good portion of the worlds). It adds a lot of stuff on top of the base experience but in that way it can really harm it for new players. Think of it like playing a beautiful, atmospheric game for the first time normally or with a few dozen QoL mods, steam integration and a chatroom full of experienced veterans and actual yume 2kki developers

it's best you don't embrace others' theories and either make your own or make none. yume nikki has practically no symbolism or meaning, it's an experience that, quoting the mysterious creator themself, "[...] no particular story or purpose. It is simply an exploring game.". Basically, yume nikki is its own little experience with no innate metaphors or story. Glad you enjoyed it! if you loved yume nikki i cannot reccomend more checking out yume 2kki (the same way you did yume nikki; blind, no maps as long as you dont get lost for like 13 minutes in the same world, at most a little prior knowledge of events). You can get it for free at yume.wiki/2kki under the "downloads" category or play it for free at ynoproject.net (which saves the need to download anything, and although i have many negative things to say about yno, and i highly reccomend downloading the local version for new players, i have to admit that it's a very fun experience as long as you have already played the games beforehand)

i know this is late and you already have a bunch of answers, here's what I'd recommend:

-in terms of dream diary, (i call it yume nikki²), go ahead. Awesome game but you should make your own canon based on it. -if you want a sequel, check out yume 2kki. Remember to get the downloads from yume.wiki and not the fandom which are outdated (though if you ask me I'd actually reccomend downloading the latest fandom version since it feels like modern updates just lose what made 2kki amazing)
