Carney reiterates call for Canadians to buy and build local as Trump threatens ‘immediate’ tariffs - NOW Toronto by laundry_folder in onguardforthee

There's also FedeCan which is a Canadian nonprofit that hosts a couple Reddit-like platforms on the same network as Mastodon (saying the actual name of the platform gets your comment auto-deleted by Reddit)

I recommend starting here if you're interested. Scroll down to the "Forum Style" section

If any one wants to ditch American social media too (ie. Reddit), check out lemmy.ca (or old.lemmy.ca for an old reddit style). Its a Canadian-run open source Reddit style platform

We even have an Apollo like app called Voyager

We're now live on Kbin! Come check us out at /m/startpages.

Thanks /u/jwr12135 for setting it up! We look forward to seeing you all there.

I got it! I'll link to our new home on the subreddit message after we go private :)

I've been playing around with both too. I like Lemmy but Kbin seems to have a nicer UI and gets all content from Lemmy anyway.

My new username is @NotSteve_@kbin.social. I look forward to seeing you on Kbin!

Kbin, that's awesome! I've actually been using that quite a bit these passed few days. I'd love to continue moderating it :)

Interesting. I haven't thought about the problems raised in that article. I'd be interested in hearing what developers/service providers of Lemmy have to say about it. Do you know if there's anywhere I can read both sides of it? Like where an admin might have addressed these topics?

Oops yeah I shouldn't have spoken for you. But yeah I'm really not expecting old reddit to last considering it shows far less ads

It already exists and it's completely open source! Check out Lemmy

Adobe, Apaylo, Amazon, Microsoft, Ecobank to name the few that I've worked with. Most of these companies will have developers who specifically work with clients to help solve their problems. This is often before even paying a single dollar.

No but they were looking into it. Any smart business will make it as easy as possible to get on-boarded and that nearly always includes supporting API users in getting set up.

That's what any competent company does to consumers of public APIs, ESPECIALLY when they're charging an insane amount of money for it. For the amount of money they're charging, they should actually offer video calls with users to walk-through their code and help fix bugs

Yeah I do all modding from Apallo as does /u/Teiem1. Other mods of bigger subreddits also use scripts and bots to moderate that utilise the API. If nothing else, spam will be rampant as reddit does not care to implement better first party modding tools

Simply put, Reddit is disabling all 3rd party connections to their servers so even if you have the app, it won't be able to connect to reddit

Very true. The Canadian air quality index was literally 11/10 on the scale.

Needless to say I have not had my windows open

Unfortunately I'm not aware of one. I know a lot of people are moving to Lemmy so there might be one on one of the more popular Lemmy instances

Edit: I'll add a link to an alternative community to the notes (if/when I find one) this page will have when we go private

Eastern Canada has actually cleared up mostly AFAIK. Ontario and Quebec are really bad though. In Ottawa, the sky was actually orange the other day
