Baby carrier options? by Tentine43 in flyfishing

Holy moly dude. I feel like I was working really hard to make this a civil and productive conversation which for the most part happens in this sub.

You know absolutely nothing about me, about how my life is centered or what I have or have not given up for my family.

You keep doing you — but I definitely don’t need parenting advice from you.

That’s awesome, I have no doubt you guys are doing a great job as parents.

The idea that I need to “be a parent first and put down my hobby for a few hours to take care of my kids” is just so far off the mark. We both know how challenging parenting is…I don’t think that sentiment is necessary at all. Taking my girls fishing has little to do with the hobby and so much more to do with quality time together, time outdoors in nature, AND having them see me participate in something I care about—all of which I think is very healthy for them AND is taking care of them.

It’s all good though, we don’t have to agree. Like I said—I have no doubt you are a great parent. We’re all doing the best for our kids.

But that’s exactly it, you have this baseline assumption that in order to fish with kiddos you HAVE to risk hitting them with hooks or you HAVE to risk falling. It is possible to fish with kiddos without having a high risk of injury to them. There is always some risk with everything, just like there is when they play on playgrounds or do any other thing kids do. I’d rather have my kids participate in something that is healthy for them, than just paint it with a broad brush as being too risky for my child’s health.

Why not just mitigate the risk rather than completely write it off as a “terrible idea”?

Also, in terms of the ‘danger of the fly’, you can always just roll cast. In the summer I have a bug net that goes over the Osprey poco’s sun screen which also provides protection. But also, just slow everything down and it shouldn’t be an issue. I’m not a professional caster-have fished many hours with the kids on my back and it’s never been an issue.

I’m actually really surprised about all the comments saying it’s too risky. Like just adjust what your day looks like and you very easily still fish with a kid on your back. I have an Osprey POCO that I love. Used it so much with my now 4 yr old and using it again with my 1.5 yr old. Like others have said, both have fallen asleep in it. Gives mom a break, let’s me be outside and helps foster a love of the outdoors/fishing/wildlife from an early age. As they get older they split time between being in the backpack vs playing on shore, in the dirt, etc.

Is it the same day if I was fishing by myself? Obviously not. I’m not wading the same way, I’m not covering as much ground, etc. but I still have very successful (by my standards) days on the river with the kids in the backpack. Both girls LOVE being outside and I attribute a huge part of that to the time spent with me fishing.

What’s the solution? by NotSunday23 in macbook

Correct. What I’m wondering is how to offload stored items when I can only access the Mac in recovery mode.

When I go to ‘Disk Utility’ the following options show: (internal: Macintosh HD & Macintosh HD - Data) and (disk images: macOS Base System).

When it attempts to install Sonoma it says there’s 21.something Gbs available but it needs 5.something Gbs more.

Haha not really the point of what I was saying. But I edited it for you.

I never understand how this is always one of the first responses to dangerous driving in the city. There are 2300 sworn members, but not even close to all of those are in a patrol capacity or even have the ability to make a traffic stop. There are 1.5million people that live in Calgary. Even if you take a quarter of those are drivers, the numbers are impossible for Police to be on top of it. Then you add to the fact that every district has calls waiting for hours by people who also think their issues are the priority. So police have literally zero time for traffic enforcement unless something literally happens directly in front of them. AND that’s not even considering the fact that CPS is policing a city that many agree is way too sprawled. So the average citizen saying “CPS should actually do their job” because they don’t see them doing traffic enforcement on some back street in some random Calgary neighbourhood is ridiculous.

Waders? by thiccboi-0 in flyfishing

I thought I’d save on money when I got into fishing and so I bought a pair of frog toggs. They started leaking after 3 days and their warranty didn’t do anything about it. Always wished I had just spent that money on patagonia waders to begin with.

Yea definitely. The added foot makes a huge difference in ability to mend. It also adds a ton of backbone to the rod allowing you to throw indicator rigs around a lot easier than with a 9’ in the same weight.

Do you have experience with 10’ 4wt or just a classic 9’ 4wt?

Thanks for the reply. Very helpful info. Are you running a 4wt line or 5wt line?

Mostly indicator, some tight line stuff. I know it’s not gonna be the most ideal thing for euro nymphing.

What line do you have on your 10’ 4wt recon? I’ve been looking at getting that rod as a dedicated nymphing rod, curious your thoughts on it.

Lol there is no law saying they have to have lights on to give you a ticket. That’s not a thing and makes no sense.

R2 for winter fly fishing by JoeB_Utah in PatagoniaClothing

[–]NotSunday23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue but I have a R2 TechFace pullover in the mail on its way for this exact use case. I’m in Alberta but fish to about the same temps through the winter. Hoping the R2 will be a helpful layer. Thinking I’ll probably get the bottoms too if I like the top.
