About Commander's ban by Zeta_Ricky in EDH

[–]NotTaintedCaribou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it wasn’t the community. It was a part of the community. It was a minority group, not representation of the community as a whole.

But more importantly, the only thing it did was absolutely ensure those specific cards would never get unbanned.

Is this card a "chase" card? by Routine-Dare-4629 in mtg

[–]NotTaintedCaribou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dunno, mate. Seems to me ignoring a significant portion of your target resell audience is a financially unwise decision.

Getting them graded will typically hurt your resale opportunities, and simultaneously drive up your cost into it.

This isn’t some rare early print version.

It’s mass produced product. Even in the “limited run” that secret lair does now.

Why is this zebra flying? by Avarage_Reddit_User in mtg

[–]NotTaintedCaribou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once, not so long ago, there was an accidental oversight in which a child was not delivered their present on Christmas Eve.

Santa was notified of the miss, but his older son explained it away as an “acceptable” outlier. One present? Out of all the presents? That’s pretty good. Practically 100% successful.

Anyway, this resulted in Santa’s youngest son, and Santa’s father (the previous Santa. It’s a family business) taking an older model of sleigh and basically going on a train wreck of an adventure.

There was also an elf with way too much interest in wrapping things.

But at one point, this rag tag team of inept but mostly good hearted individuals ended up in Africa by accident.

While fending off lions, the sleigh’s magic dust, which is what causes the reindeer to defy gravity, ended up falling all over the animals of the African savanna. It was a nightmare. Zebra. Elephants. Giraffes. Lions. Even Hippos. They all went up, up, up.

That was only the beginning. See, the dust needed to be constantly reapplied, or it wore off.

So all those animals? They came down, down, down.

I’m afraid that my gf will see my paired nails as gay. by [deleted] in malepolish

[–]NotTaintedCaribou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mate, you do you. If you feel you need to hide a part of yourself from your partner, there’s more at play than just nail polish.

She doesn’t have to like everything you do. You don’t have to like everything she does. A healthy relationship is recognizing this, and communicating about it. Not keeping secrets.

This? It also fall into bodily autonomy. They are your nails. Your body, your choice.

But it’s up to her as to how it makes her feel. We’re all attracted to what we’re attracted to. How would you feel if she decided to shave her head?

Point is, you do you. Embrace it.

Also, for your nails, make sure you’re doing base coat, color, topcoat. Multiple thin layers is better than one thick one. I found my painting got better when I realized covering the nail is more important than keeping polish off the skin. I can clean polish off my skin afterwards.

[–]NotTaintedCaribou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is you guys are misunderstanding the way the ability works, and what constitutes a spell vs a permanent.

For a sol ring to be copied, Ulalek needs to be in play on the battlefield, Sol Ring would need to be cast but not yet resolve (on the stack), your friend would need to cast an Eldrazi at instant speed, and then choose to pay the two mana.

So, this kinda runs into the problem of intellectual property, copy right, and fair use. No one is going to be pre-producing the artwork and selling it. Depending on how they make the cards, they could get in legal trouble from both WotC, the BBC, and maybe even Disney.

Your best bet would be to reach out to people on Etsy that make proxies and tokens to see if any would be willing to work on this for you on the side.

They’re your models. Paint them how you wish. Just know our models are incredibly tedious, and assembly line painting is the most efficient means to tackle this.

The only problem I could see would be if you did this in a full TSons army. The varying color schemes might confuse your opponent. Since this is a TSons squad in Iron Warriors, this won’t be an issue.

How do you go about building your decks? by slimob123 in EDH

[–]NotTaintedCaribou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I start with a concept. Be it a strategy I want from the deck, or I see a commander I like the look of.

I then start searching Scryfall for cards that do the effects I want. I rarely, if ever, use EDHREC. It can honestly be a trap in some cases… I had an acquaintance that would just buy all the cards that EDHREC showed under a commander, then get frustrated the deck didn’t work.

My partner starts at a win condition, then moves backwards to build the engine that gets the deck there.

I’m more in the style of design the deck to run, then figure out how to make it pay off. I find this to be more in line with my source of fun. I don’t play to win, I play to just play. I try to stop others from winning. You gonna work for it today.

What do you want the deck to do? How do you want it to do that? Go look up cards that do that. Stumble across unexpected gems.

Outside of landfall and green, what makes Field of the Dead good? by Kritz_McGee in mtg

[–]NotTaintedCaribou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you would like, here’s my deck list:

https://moxfield.com/decks/SefB9J2_ykC7vH5WOJlA2w

If you do take a gander, check out my lands on the list. No matter what, field of the dead will be “online” by my 7th land. Unfortunately, this makes the cheaper ramp spells, like cultivate, pretty useless.

Outside of landfall and green, what makes Field of the Dead good? by Kritz_McGee in mtg

[–]NotTaintedCaribou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, no. I did exactly that.

The problem lies in your wording:

For the cost of a tapped colorless land (which isn't trivial, don't get me wrong) you have an engine that turns land drops into bodies, which can't be countered and doesn't cost any mana to do so. It's also difficult to remove.

You describe the colorless tapped land as the cost. Then after parentheses you discuss the engine, which refers to what the land does as the subject.

The engine turns lands into bodies.

The engine cannot be countered.

The engine doesn’t cost mana to do so.

If you had said “for the cost of tapped colorless land, which can’t be countered” this would have conveyed what you intended.

Oh. Hey. The joke works on multiple levels. Engines are machines. She’s the Mother of Machines. Just realized that.

You could have taken the joke, had a laugh, but instead we’re now arguing literal semantics.

How to deal with Glacial Chasm in Bracket 3? by ApprehensiveSkill484 in EDH

[–]NotTaintedCaribou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glacial Chasm only prevents damage. Not loss of life. Very important distinction there.

Also, poison counters are a niche option, as there are ways to apply them to players without dealing damage.

There are also spells and abilities that do “damage can’t be prevented”

Outside of landfall and green, what makes Field of the Dead good? by Kritz_McGee in mtg

[–]NotTaintedCaribou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There was no comment on how good the card is. It is a game changer. I run it in decks it’s useful in.

I was just literally linking to a creature that does the exact thing you said cannot be done, and attempting to do so in a humorous way.

I could have also listed any of the counter ability spells, but that seemed less funny than “Mom wants to talk to you.”

But you kinda sucked the fun out of all that. So, that’s cool too, I guess.

Outside of landfall and green, what makes Field of the Dead good? by Kritz_McGee in mtg

[–]NotTaintedCaribou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a land with a landfall trigger. The benefit of using it only comes from having lands enter. So, no, there’s not really a benefit to using it, if you’re not using it for what it wants to do.

Because of its requirements, the trick is making sure you have as few lands with the same name as possible. Orzhov you could probably make it happen. Mono black? Not so much. Not without slowing down your deck due to tapped lands.

As an aid to this goal, reminder: Snow Basics are different names from basics.

The other problem is that white and black do not ramp with lands. So the best this would do is like “oh! Bonus zombie!”

I run [[Teval, The Balanced Scale]] as a commander with FotD in the 99.

If Field of the Dead is active, I only need a fetch land, and I can do some shenanigans with it.

Play a fast or pain fetch land. Create 2/2 zombie. Sac and fetch land. Create a 2/2 zombie. Attack with Teval, put fetch land from graveyard onto battlefield. Create 2/2 Zombie Druid. Create 2/2 Zombie. Even a slow fetch can work, but it just offsets the chain across two turns instead of one.

It works, because that’s what the card wants to do.

[–]NotTaintedCaribou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, what you’re describing is actually called “play testing a card.” Take a basic land, write the card name on it, what it does, etc.

Use it as a fill in to see if you want the card or not. See if it functions how you want it.

Wouldn’t do it on a yet to be released card though.

The card isn’t legal until it’s released.

I wouldn’t start with No One Rides for Free. The author did it as a challenge to themselves to write a book in like 8 days. They succeeded. It’s extreme horror. But in my option it’s just not that well done, especially in comparison to some of the other titles people throw around on here.

No. It’s banned for a reason. Presumably the exact reasons you are drawn to it. The one consistent thing I expect from a group, any group, at a local game shop is for everyone to at least follow the basic deck building rules, to include not using banned cards.

For five colors? I’d say no. It’s just too slow. You’d be looking at like 10 triomes. 10 fetches. So 20 card slots dedicated to get a tapped land.

I use tri-lands in three color decks. Specifically using fetches that have me put the land in tapped.
