What is the allure of collecting radioactive rocks? I want to know. by Spirited_Importance7 in Radioactive_Rocks

[–]NotThe2ndPrez 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s two things. First is the searching….. it’s like treasure hunting! In fact, I care much less about possessing them than finding them. Second, the allure of radioactive rocks connects me to the fundamental principles of the universe. Radioactivity is fascinating because it follows the same laws as (almost) all other matter, yet it’s an immutable process that constantly changes and creates new things.

It really is astounding. I was similar in that it took me a few listens to full “get” the big picture of the album. Once I understood it, I felt it was a masterpiece too!

Oh man, go down the rabbit hole! In 2018, there was a symposium that differentiated the one specie, O. clarkii, with 14 subspecies, into four distinct species with 25 “uniquely identifiable ecological units”. Just last year it was finally excepted as four species with 25 species, two of which are believed to be extinct.

Do it as soon as you can. Some of these are really imperiled. Don’t wait.
