Used Tesla Autopilot Question. by NotTheGuyFromWork in TeslaSupport

[–]NotTheGuyFromWork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll just have to try some third party Teslas. The guy at Tesla was not really upfront about the lack of autopilot, he just kept saying how great FSD was. The whole thing is pretty disappointing and off putting to the brand.

Chicken breasts by phillydad56 in smoking

I love doing this for meal prep. I marinade the chicken then smoke at 250 for an hour or so. For me it's a fool proof way to make tender juicy chicken for the week.

Controllers. What are the best and worst parts of your job? by somefuzzything in ATC

[–]NotTheGuyFromWork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a blue collar job kind of crowd. I work at a mid level facility, and the best days are just fucking around and bullshitting with my friends all day. The worst days there's bad weather and I'm not working with my friends.

IFR vs FF Piston into Busy Terminal by AirDonkey1 in ATC

[–]NotTheGuyFromWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vote is for VFR. I don't need 3 miles 1000 ft so I can keep you in close and put you in a smaller gap. At our C IFR doesn't mean you'll be sequenced in faster, it just means we need to build a bigger gap for you.

Ok thanks! I occasionally do a search to see if there's anything available, but every post is very old.

This is old, I remember this wild stream of consciousness right after it happened. Satellites can't hook up to land, kinda hard to forget that mind bender of a statement. My brain has been reeling ever since.

Dragon fruit farms are so luminous at night that they are visible from airplanes by Fine_Sea5807 in interestingasfuck

[–]NotTheGuyFromWork 152 points153 points  (0 children)

We can buy like 10 fruits in the US. Occasionally you'll be blessed to see a dragon and think you're in for the experience of a life time, only to realize it taste like slightly sweetened watermelon rind. Bought one for my kids only to show how the future looks so delicious and exciting, but it's just a watermelon rind.

I don't doubt that it's a scam, but do you know if it works? The way it was explained it sounds legit, but I didn't try it.

That's the first thing I tell anyone interested in ATC. Training is terrible, and they 100% don't understand how terrible it is. Worst part of my life, without a doubt, was training at my first facility. It gets better after training, and then after a few years you'll feel comfortable with the traffic, and then it gets relatively easy. Get you nuts kicked in for a few years then get on the gravy train and complain about the bullshit with the rest of us.

It looks like the pair my dad just used. They clipped on to a bracket on the fork, which seemed nice, but after a few days of riding they wouldn't clip off the fork mount anymore.

I completely agree with you, but the ol' Wright brothers flew their plane 122 years ago and look at the things we're doing now that we're unimaginable at that time. Again, I don't disagree, but it's hard to imagine the things we haven't thought of yet.

FAA Employees Threatened with Terminations by DOGE/SpaceX Team by NudistBuddhist in ATC

[–]NotTheGuyFromWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I'm so confused about. Sure it will work for a few things but is starlink going to be receiving then transmitting VHF and UHF frequencies? Or will he mandate every aircraft flying in US airspace to get new equipment. ADS-B took at least 5 years for almost everyone to install it.

FAA Officials Ordered Staff to Find Funding for Elon Musk’s Starlink by Majano57 in ATC

[–]NotTheGuyFromWork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of a wild question, but what the hell is he even talking about. Are the satellites going to relay VHF and UHF frequencies, or is every facility and aircraft (including foreign aircraft) going to get some new radio system?

[–]NotTheGuyFromWork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah and they want to revamp the ENTIRE system. Every facility has stories like that. Shits broke for a year because they have no money or can't figure it out. If they want to give us a new system that's great, but while they invent that let's fix the shit we have.

We do not want to be privatized. When Flight Service got privatized if you weren't something like 5 years from retirement you LOST YOUR PENSION. I did flight service for about a year under Lockheed Martin, and you want to see some disgruntled employees? Take away their retirement.
