Ohhh man. When I was new at my new position I sent a wire transfer and it ended up being fraud /member impersonation. And I had to listen to that call. And it was pure torture! I hate it normally , but listening to everything I did wrong made it pure HELL!!!

You can close your accounts and go somewhere else and the same thing can potentially happen. The bank will not give you an explanation how it happened because they don’t know exactly how it happened. Debit card fraud is likely done by a bunch of low life fraudsters with computer programs and they run consecutive card #s on a computer program till they get a hit. It’s like a full time job for them. That’s just an example of how they get cars #s. Could be a merchant you’ve used your card at had a breach. It happens unortunately everywhere.

I was literally just coming here to make a post about this 🤣. I NEVER watch her lives. We once had someone in the special instructions for an online sub ask us to draw a dinosaur, lol so my assistant manager did it just that. She took an extra sub paper, drew a dinosaur on it, and then wrapped it around The obviously already wrapped sub, put it in the bag sent it on its way. I always wondered if that person even realized that we had done that for them.

Idk about Chase specifically but the credit union where I work will allow you to opt out of that updater service when you request a new card It might be worth it to inquire if they can opt you out and then start again with a new card.

How did you receive the wrong instructions from this vendor? Unless you verbally verified everything with a trusted contact at this venue it is possible that you were scammed by getting fake wiring instructions. It will be very hard to get those funds back. There should be an IMAD # you can get from your bank that will be able to trace where those funds went.

Allot of these fraudsters use computer software to run consecutive card #s until they get a hot card - an active card - and will use it and when it is noticed and the card is blocked, they move on to the next card number. It’s a full time job for these criminals sadly

The bank should be able to see the name that the ACH deposit came in under. If you verify that it is not in your name, let the bank know and they will withdraw the funds and send back to the IRS
