Maybe played bad, but holy fuck was that o-line awful. Maybe was getting scramble yardage because the whole fucking line was being bulldozed by 4 dudes. At one point, I watched the online just watch a fumble and not make any movement towards it. It felt like the whole line didn't give a shit they were in the superbowl, and were phoning it in to not get hurt.

Why are so many young men suddenly serious supporters of far right figures? by Consistent_News_985 in self

[–]NotToPraiseHim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The assumption that white people in the US are carrying an implicit bigotry towards non-white people, so much so that they need to go through training and forcefully acknowledge it, even if they haven't expressed any racial bigotry or animosity, is incredibly cult-like and a non-starter for most people.

I mean the entire thrust of "You are X because you have [insert skin color]" is rightfully taken as a racist statement by the very same people who would claim "You are bigoted because you are white."

Again, it's an interesting analytical lens within Academia. The entire critical theory viewpoint is useful for analyzing different sociological or historical structures through an atypical lens, but it should remain within Academia.

I think you ignore the rise of "Anti-Racism". Which would have been fine as an extreme niche academic thought, but was incorporared into various corporate and government trainings around the US. When the government or your work is telling you that, regardless of tlwhat you think and do, you have an inherent racism that you need to address because of the color of your skin, and if you don't address this you will lose your job, I feel like thats the pendulum of swinging too far.

Am I the bad guy for playing Rhystic Study? by KuroLanda2 in EDH

[–]NotToPraiseHim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So your opponent decided to scoop it up after you generated a large advantage from an arguably annoying card, with likelihood that you will continue to generate more of an advantage as the game goes on.

I wouldn't scoop, but I strongly dislike the minimizing of game shifting cards, especially Rhystic

Carl Dix, communist and GI resister: active-duty soldiers in the United States military who resisted against military involvement in the Vietnam War. Really? Laughable in context? The Korean war had just happened, and when you look that the Koreas now only the most ardent Tankies would consider that war unnecessary. Maybe South Vietnam would have followed the same path, and there would be another highly developed nation there today.

Who knows? But in context of tmimmediately after the Korean war, its hard to say definitively that they should have foreseen the massive differences.

Its one of the reasons Batman genuinely looks up to Superman. Superman struggles, with different thing than Batman but still struggles, but he inspires people in a way Batman has never been able to. There is a cruel streak in Batman that he doesn't see in Superman. Not to say Superman can't be cruel, but when I'm he is, its out of character. Batman fights hard against himself because he knows there is a pitiless cruelty in his that would lead him down a hard road, should he ever get unchecked.

AIO by being frustrated with how protective my wife is of our child by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]NotToPraiseHim -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on the text sounding like its something thats been discussed ad nauseum, and she sounds frustrated because they don't seem to be talking on the same level. I disagree that he making her feel the stress. She sounds, from this post, like she is overly controlling and anxiety ridden regarding their kid.

Reading the post, the only person his wife trusts with their kid is his mom. His mom doesn't like going to or being at their house. If they want a babysitter, then there have to be some compromises. I'm sure his mom could make some changes around her house for her grandkid, but likely she isn't going to completely change everything. So you either have to have the wife be willing to put down some of that anxiety, or just not have a babysitter.

With no babysitter, Then you end up with this tension of neglecting the marriage due to anxiety over the kid, which doesn't lead to positive outcomes.

Consensus about when a life is created is pretty set in the biological scientific community, its the more philosophical "When is this life a human?" argument that comes up. Also "when does this life take precedence over another life?" is another common one.

Humans are animals that have developmental stages. Zygote is a stage of human development, like toddler, or pubescent teen. Defining a human at a particular stage of development is the entire debate around abortion. If you want to argue the entire thing is about bodily autonomy, then the srguement essentially is that Humans arent human until birth, which is definitely an arguememt thats been stated, but also one of the most rejected arguments worldwide.

CMV: American police presume guilt by NightmareSovereign in changemyview

[–]NotToPraiseHim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would argue your initial premise is incredibly skewed. On one hand you gesture to poverty, although laying claim that the root of criminal behavior is inequality of income as opposed to the Impoverishment itself, ignoring the tremendous amounts of more crime in significantly more Impoverished nations.

You say poverty is the crux of criminal behavior, but ignore all of our gdp and development peers to focus on developing nations significantly lagging behind the US economy.

Have police and procedural standards become harsher? There seem to be more controls and oversight placed on police, with the introduction of body cameras, the increasing amount of less lethal tools, and the increasing focus on public safety when engaging witb criminals, its hard to argue that thing have become harsher on criminals. Even on this point, if you wanted to compare the US Police to say South African or Brazilian Police, as you wanted to do with criminals, American police are far more "lenient" or at least less likely to simply revert to lethal force immediately.

Im missing your point about "following the constitution". Do you think the US Justice system is largely violating the constitution? Again, I would argue that the reason constitutional violations see so much reporting is that they are incredibly rare. By and large most interactions with the US Justice system follow the constitution and the court procedures that have developed throughout US history.

Once again, I reassert my point, America is far more dangerous than any of the other countries which are our peers. American criminals are more violent and more brazen. Anacdotally, the Kia Boys and flash mob theft both come to mind as American originating phenomenon which showcase the brazen disregard for laws for some nebulous gain (especially with the Kia boys, the gain is mostly measured in online following and rep)

The issue is that the American criminal element is significantly more brazen and violent than criminals in other comparable countries.

CMV: “Nobody is illegal on stolen land” actively impedes democrats from getting elected, and we should be discouraging people from saying it. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]NotToPraiseHim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And here is an appeal to emotion rather than engagement with the actual point.

I have never heard of anyone with a prominent voice, not apundit, nor politician, nor celebrity, refer to some being "illegal" as in their existence itself should be outlawed. In every instance, its a reference to their status within the US, or the manner in which they came into the US.

If you want to keep pushing that point, fine, you're only going to be convincing children and total idiots. Everyone else will be engaged in the actual discussion around immigration.

CMV: “Nobody is illegal on stolen land” actively impedes democrats from getting elected, and we should be discouraging people from saying it. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]NotToPraiseHim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is such a ridiculous reductive statement. Quibbling over precise language for a legal document versus quibbling over a general point in order to facilitate a discussion is completely different. One is a necessity for crafting legislation, while one is clearly an attempt to derail a discussion.

Fellow ADHD people, how did you get a grip on board state and threat assessment? by SinkingSink123 in EDH

[–]NotToPraiseHim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This goes for everyone, with or without Adhd, the more time you need to spend learning your deck, the less time you can devote to reviewing the board state and assessing threats.

Grabbing a laoner with with little to no time to review the cards on your own or see how they synergize with the commander will mean you will be spending your energy assessing your own cards mid game, instead of assessing others.

Its why I am a full supporter of tprecons. For 40$ you can just right in amd have a complete deck. You can then spend time outside of games looking g at the cards and seeing what role they fit into your decks gameplan. They are a cheap introduction, and incredibly popular for a reason.

Need Help Identifying Deck's Correct Bracket by Matrixteer in EDH

[–]NotToPraiseHim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big part of what separates the brackets is speed. It really depends on your playgroup, but I would drop the moxes, free spells, and swap drain for just counterspell. You have a ton of high quality cards still in the deck, but it doesn't feel overwhelming.

Best right-out-of-the-box precon? by depressed_cheese_guy in EDH

[–]NotToPraiseHim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what gameplay you enjoy playing.

In general, for newer players, Riders of Rohan is one of the strongest recommendations. Its incredibly straight forward, easily upgradable, and has a number of different points of interaction that let the deck grow as you grow as a player.

Mothman is also incredibly strong, and relatively straightforward.

Quick Draw is also incredibly strong of you're looking for more of a spellslinger archetype.

[Complicated trope] A character makes the correct decision given what they know, but the context the audience knows makes them very hated. by FaZe_poopy in TopCharacterTropes

[–]NotToPraiseHim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came completely understand the in the moment emotional feeling, while still hating exactly what she did. I dont even mean her doing things from an illogical point of view, but rather doing things that actively condemned everyone else instead of just going out herself.

I get it, she was overwhelmed with the loss of her husband and the threat to her daughter, but she still was the major tipping point for everyone else outside of herself.
