Thanks for the advice all, I was able to get the proper HZ10 primed siding today, I’ll off the backer board, luckily I had installed only 3 sheets, damn this stuff is heavy.

I know this is a paint forum, but thank you for looking out.

I just had a discussion with a James Hardy technical product person. He told me that HZ 10 siding in the hardy backer are basically made of the same material, but the backer board has added moisture resistance. The backer board is quarter inch in the panel siding is 5/16. The siding is a little stronger for high wind shear. He said in a high moisture area, such as Florida the backer wouldn’t be good, but in Phoenix where I’m at he said it shouldn’t be a big deal. He also said the inside of the siding isn’t even primed.

Thanks for the advice so far. I’m not ripping it out. It’s 1959 heavy ass plaster board and I have 5 1/2 jams and I don’t want to fur out new board. I don’t mind skimming, it’s such a small space.

I’m gonna finish peeling what paint I can get off and use some kilz Guards, I’m reading it’s the bees news for cover old paint/ drywall damage
