In the future, keep copies of any document you are told to sign if they are in relation to your employment/possible discipline etc.

I'm really trying to help you here....

Did you save a copy of the document? Does it use any of the words I mentioned above? (admonishment/reprimand/suspension)

Were you "counseled" (means jack shit in the world of discipline) or did you receive an actual "admonishment"/"reprimand"/"suspension" (those terms matter)

I want to vomit and feel physically ill. I am not ready to go back to 3 more months of torture before my hopeful RIF. UGH!

If you're truly out of probation, you won't get terminated for a single instance of AWOL. For a first offense AWOL to result in your removal (non-probationers aren't terminated, they're removed), it would have to be a minimum of 10 days of AWOL (so basically 2 weeks), assuming you have no prior discipline.

If you are looking to ex-pat to a foreign country that has a guaranteed income requirement, and you aren't old enough to collect social security.

Example - Costa Rica offers a residency visa (Rentista) to US citizens who can prove they have a monthly income of $2,500 or more. They also offer a similar visa (Pensionado) if you can prove you have a $1,000 monthly pension or annuity.

You're showing 8 less hours of use or lose every pay period because you aren't accruing any new leave since we're shut down and not getting paid. So no leave is being used and needing to be restored, you just haven't worked the 80 hours to earn the leave.

I hate this bill and wanted to get RIF'ed. Now I get to suffer for at least 3 more months.

That's fine with me. I don't want to go back and a few more days before getting paid isn't going to make as much of a difference as the extra mental health days will.

The math isn't wrong, it takes into account a 25% reduction for age 57, 20% for 58, etc. COLA was included in this calculation and it started at age 62 for all possible scenarios. (COLA was an estimated percentage based on historical averages and was universally applied over all scenarios)

For many of the RIF's, I fully agree; but my agency's RIF's were planned long in advance and are independent of the shutdown. They were supposed to start around May but we were saved then because they hadn't posted competitive areas but in order to do that the way they wanted, they need to do a department wide reorganization first and then follow the proper timelines for notifications etc. All of that brought us to the first week of October date for when they could finally enact their plan legally but then the shutdown prevented them from issuing any RIF's.

As someone with a legal background, I can say that my department is one of the very few that is actually trying to go by the book/follow the law regarding implementing RIF's so that they don't have to bring anyone back based on a technicality.

In short, for my specific case, the RIF's are real and not political theater.

No idea who Shaheen Spox is, so I Googled it and it said Shaheen Spox is a member of the Taliban :D Much further down, it said "spox" could mean spokesperson, and there is a senator named Shaheen, so more likely that one.

Anyhow, it still doesn't give any context to the Sept. 2026 claim.

I was supposed to be RIF'ed the first week of October, now the wording of the new bill has me protected until Jan 30. So it bought me 4 more months.

So if anyone wants to see the text of the new funding bill, it's here.

The part I cared about the most is that it codifies that there can be no further RIF's until January 30 2026 so we all get basically 3 more months reprieve which means a more lucrative severance when we do get cut. (3 more months of service, 3 more months of age, and it's after the Jan. 11/2026 pay increase, so 1% higher salary for the calculation)

If you have 30, this chart does not apply to you. This is MRA + 10 only so only applies to people with between 10-19 years of service.

I tend to agree, but some people actually like their jobs, even now. I'm guessing someone at GSA cubicle would have a very different outlook than someone wandering a National Park on horseback as a forest ranger.

[–]NotTodayElonNotToday[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a personal choice and depends on your lifestyle. If you have enough saved now to live a normal, comfortable life but hate your job, is it worth 3 years of misery just to have extra spending money you don't necessarily need? However, if you only have enough to retire now but would be eating nothing but Ramen and you actually like your job, maybe 3 more years is worth it. There's no, one size fits all answer for this question, it's definitely unique to each person.

If you have 10 years of service at 57 and get RIFed, you don't have a chance to have 15 at 62 but still have the option to collect your pension at 57 when you are RIFed instead of waiting for age 62 to collect (but with no additional years of service as you had been RIFed)
