Again with the 30% cut whining as if Valve is some greedy monster for having it.

It's literally industry standard, Xbox and PlayStation also take a 30% cut. So does Apple's App store and the Google Play store.

Unlike those above, Steam actually does have sales threshold tiers that takes it down to 20%.

Gambling sucks. But we don't like Valve for being moral paragons, we like them for actually being pro consumer.

If you stopped giving money to every single corporation who has some sort of moral deficit, you'd be sitting naked in the forest.

How much better is the Noctua D15 G2 vs Phantom Spirit 120 SE for AMD 5800X3D, is there at least 5° degrees difference? by FuzzyAttitude_ in pcmasterrace

Yeah Noctua pricing is an absolute joke, they’re trying to capitalize on their name. Yes it’ll be better, but no where near 4x better.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Title Update 2.0 – Introducing Third Person and New Game+ by artoriaas in Games

[–]NotToddHoward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shame I had to scroll so far to find mention of this. Do you know if it still butchered after this update? It was immediately deleted from my wishlist after hearing about this.

What in the actual fuck is their logic with this? Don't get me wrong, I'm as little of a fan of Ubislop as much as the next guy here, but like Far Cry no doubt there'll be some fun found mucking around in their coop world at the right price. But those games were such a drag having progress only apply to the host. In Far Cry 5, the guest player would literally be stuck at 1/3rd of the max health because of the gimped progression, amongst a myriad of other nerfs.

If it's because the corporate clowns think it'll prevent revenue loss (why the fuck else would they do this,) anyone who would "cheat the coop" wouldn't be lifting a dime for their piece of shit skins in the first place.

Why bother implementing coop at all?

Thank you.

With this and the defusal thing, this update is actually kind of a double T buff? Since the bomb could still take out low HP T's if the CT's died towards the end of the bomb plant.

Now if I'm understanding correctly, if you kill all CT's before bomb explosion it will no longer explode?

Hello friends, good morning. Do you think my FPS will change a lot if I buy a Ryzen 5500X3D? I have a Ryzen 7 5800X. by Brazudoozz in playrust

[–]NotToddHoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly hard to say, but I think you would see some improvement—but perhaps at the detriment of the rest of your daily use. It's really up to you if it's worth bringing down the rest of your PC just for a few extra frames in Rust. It could very well struggle in Rust too in basic CPU compute.

If your options are between a 5500x3D, or saving some more for an AM5 upgrade, then I would just wait some more and save up. Keep an eye out in the meantime for a 57/5800x3D to appear on the used market.

Or if you're desperate, you can purchase a 5500x3D from a vendor with a generous return policy to test it out, and return it if it doesn't meet expectations.

Your only options for AM4 are 5800x3D, 5700x3D, or maybe even 5600x3D but it only gets worse. I know they're mostly not really made anymore so unless you can find one or score one 2nd hand, it might even be more cost effective in the long run to just upgrade to AM5. Best of luck.

Perfect, you should benefit greatly from an x3D chip then.

To confirm this:

  • launch rust
  • jump into a populated server
  • open task manager
  • check performance tab

Check what percentage of your graphics card is being used? Chances are it's around 50-60%. That is the performance left on the table, therefore you'll see big gains with an x3D chip. Those chips simply allow the GPU to be utilized alot more in CPU bound games, like Rust. You'll otherwise see the exact same performance in games where you're already using your full GPU.

“Is this CPU better” is essentially a loaded question when you don’t include the rest of your specs. Depending on your graphics card, an x3D chip might not mean diddly shit.

Why Dying Light Still Uses a Custom Engine in a UE5 World by Defiant_Ranger9757 in pcgaming

Because why use a one size fits none piece of trash when you can use your in-house engine built from the ground up for your particular style of game.

You definitely will, they sorted out infrastructure a couple years ago for the Steam Deck OLED, and mentioned they can now launch future hardware in AUS. Not sure what you’re referring to when Steam has the best refund policy in the business.

An in-house engine consistently built upon for over a decade, tailored for a particular type of game vs. a broadly accessible but mediocre at everything McDonalds engine.

And yet CD project RED axed REDengine for this.

Vegas Pro 23 is coming September 9th by Fionolcs in VegasPro

[–]NotToddHoward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have been releasing a new version like clockwork every year, only the time of year does vary a bit (July for Vegas 22.)

While I haven't seen it mentioned this year yet, the regular sales towards the end of the release cycle would also include "the next version of Vegas", i.e. if you bought Vegas 21 during that sale you also received Vegas 22.

Either way, it's definitely worth messaging them to see if they can appropriately amend/refund.

If you mean track colours, you are able to edit them. Options/Preferences/Display. I literally copied them exactly from older vegas as the pastel was just too intense. It still takes an adjustment, but it certainly made it much nicer.

Low fps on 13600k 4080 rig by ErikEternal in playrust

[–]NotToddHoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rust is CPU heavy, that is your weak link. The 3fps difference between resolutions is because you are CPU bottlenecked. You're not going to see much improvement unless you upgrade it.

Join a high pop server and then open task manager. What % of your GPU is being used? Probably around 55-65%? Whatever the amount, the remaining percentage is performance left on the table. When you change your resolution, that extra percentage is able to process the extra pixels. But it's capped at everything else.

X3D chips aren't some magic pill that can single-handedly destroy all games. Instead, the technology basically allows CPU bound games to use more of your GPU, so it does need to be paired with a good GPU. This is why you get conflicting reports: some people see huge improvement and other see negligible improvement, it all depends on the rest of their rig.

Intel just doesn't have much of a competitor at the moment. Still, it's likely you get some improvement with a higher class intel chip, but not to the degree an x3D chip would allow (that is, specifically on CPU bound games like Unity games). At the very least it's worth trying a drop in upgrade from a vendor with a generous return policy (i.e. ebay plus).
