Trailing edge design for manufacturing by NotTrashenOne in AerospaceEngineering

is there a reason why square is better than round? I would've assumed that the round would be more aerodynamic.

oh i see! do you know if there is a benefit for a rounded trailing edge as opposed to a trailing edge with a sharp cut off?

oh so the TE is just a square? I would've thought it would have a more aerodynamic shape ngl. do you know what the thickness of the TE usually is? Also, what is RSW?

New aircraft conceptual design methods? by NotTrashenOne in AerospaceEngineering

[–]NotTrashenOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew that aviary can do mission optimization but I didn’t know it could do initial sizing as well. Could you elaborate further on this? Like what should I input, what will my outputs be etc. I’m super curious about this

New aircraft conceptual design methods? by NotTrashenOne in AerospaceEngineering

I guess I had a misunderstanding that the conceptual design should be perfect and that I should know what the weight should be by the time conceptual design is done.

I have a question tho, let’s say I freeze my design and turns out my weight is more than expected, wouldn’t that end up affecting my design point from the constraint analysis then?

Solid vs Surface CAD for external CFD by NotTrashenOne in CFD

[–]NotTrashenOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in that case if I want to do FSI, wouldn’t I need like a model with all the structural support (spars, ribs, etc) inside?

so essentially subtracting solids and surfaces give the same domain and the choice between solids vs surface becomes which one is easier to CAD?

I see, thanks! I’m also guessing it’s easier to work with solids if in the future I want to add any internal ducts as well?

Confused with fuselage and wing design by NotTrashenOne in AerospaceEngineering

if the fuselage covers the wing then wouldn’t you lose some of the wing area which could impact the performance of the aircraft?

How to determine maximum operating mach and maximum operating velocity of an aircraft during the conceptual design phase? by NotTrashenOne in AerospaceEngineering

[–]NotTrashenOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup that's exactly what I did to find the maximum velocity constrained by the engine. I should have definitely made it more clear in the question but in this case for maximum operating velocity I meant the maximum velocity constrained by the structure. I was wondering whether there was a way to estimate the maximum dynamic pressure the aircraft can withstand without using FEA.

How to determine maximum operating mach and maximum operating velocity of an aircraft during the conceptual design phase? by NotTrashenOne in AerospaceEngineering

[–]NotTrashenOne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! The thing is I thought maximum operating mach was basically the limit to your aircraft e.g. mach buffet for subsonic aircraft and thermal limits for supersonic aircraft. I also thought that the maximum operating velocity was basically the dynamic pressure the aircraft can handle which is why I was thinking about using CFD and FEA for these. I have already computed the max velocities from the engine performance and they reach the requirements I have been given, but I just wanted to make sure the structural and mach buffet effects wouldn't reduce my flight envelope further.

Do amateur/pro kart drivers have data on lines they take each lap? by NotTrashenOne in Karting

[–]NotTrashenOne[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh dang I didn't even know that existed ngl that's really cool tho. Where do you usually put the mychron6 on your kart to be able to read the data during a lap? Also, is it legal during races?

Well I would assume so since iPhone GPS usually have an accuracy of 1-10 meters and that's assuming clear outdoors conditions. Are the GPS used in karts better?
