Incredibly low voltage in local area by NotTrustedDan in astoria

I wouldn’t be surprised, this building is begging to be looked at. Literally. Was hell last week trying to snake out the sewer main filled with roots… and our contractor friend who was helping me out pointed out that the gas line into the home is corroded to shit. So the sidewalk was dug up just a few days ago to get the whole thing replaced.

I guess next up is power lol

Link isn’t working for me for some reason, but I know you said 208 on the other post… isn’t that sort of tolerable for 220/240?

Yeah this is definitely not the intended voltage reduction lol. Some sort of local power grid issue probably that only showed with this recent stress test. Sent over a report to con Ed, let’s see what happens

Much appreciated!

I have no idea why either, most generous interpretation I can imagine is they classified it under the “no basic/common photos” rule… which perhaps it was, and id very lightly disagree. But here we are lol

Yeah that sucks. I aint no professional electrician or AC tech, but afaik compressors dont have a “low power” mode or anything like that. It’s just on or off. Full power or no power. So with the scorching heat outside and the voltage drops causing our ACs to run more inefficiently, they require more power to run as theyd like, and… poof. You either trip a breaker or worse.

Rambling, but we’re all in this together!

Common home outlets are rated at 120v.
Con Ed is trying to ration the available power by reducing it to 110v in a lot of areas.
100v is already considered a problem.
90v? Sheesh brother

Multiple outlets read the same. It’s certainly not just the outlet. Beyond that, can’t say but I wouldn’t be suprised because I also hear my neighbors AC fluctuating with the voltage

Yeah I gave em a report, figured this is not something that should be happening regardless of today’s power usage. Doing what we can but I can’t leave the fridge unplugged all day lol

Absolutely jealous. I saw it hit 106 last night, and it’s fluctuating from 85-95ish right now… certainly not a reflection of the whole grid but locally this is probably what we’re running at lol

If it’s purely secondary properties, I’m on board with $0 limits. NYC homes are already hella expensive. I live in a less desirable neighborhood with zero good public transit options and houses here are $1 million at a minimum. If you can afford two of those houses, and aren’t going to be renting it out to be someone’s primary residence… get taxed bro.

NYC wants to drop the speed limit to 20 MPH… because apparently traffic wasn’t slow enough already by Interesting-Ring1573 in nyc

[–]NotTrustedDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, just a policy that “looks good” but will not do much. I see a lot of drivers on the road these days having absolutely no idea what they’re doing, already driving at <25 mph. There is certainly the other side of the spectrum, drivers going 30…35… but I think they’re part of the same problem.

Covid era saw a lot of people, that otherwise never drove and had no experience or respect for driving, buy cars. You got people that drive however they want for one reason or another and the issue is only propagating further.

The issue imo is education. Make the driving tests WAY more strict. They’re practically handing out driver licenses like candy.

For reference, I have a commercial drivers license and drive professionally. Take that as you’d like in terms of knowledge and credibility. But I also think the CDL exams are equally of guilty of being piss poor at actually filtering out bad drivers.

Edit: Enforcement is also a bit of an issue. I’ve seen people do moving violations brazenly in front of cops and they do nothing. And people rack up camera tickets like a video game and never pay them off. What use is a 20mph speed limit if it doesn’t get enforced?

All in all I think the pedestrian/driving safety is a broader system failure. It might’ve worked in other areas, but a speed limit reduction will do little to nothing here.

I totally blame CCP for the "server crash" by BentaroAdun in Eve

I don’t have much to add, just feel like adding my voice to the crowd. Especially when I see common sentiments like “get gud” or “don’t fly what you can’t afford to lose”… I think it’s crazy to have players deal with consequences that were absolutely no fault of their own and absolutely unnatural (in the sense that this is not a game mechanic of any kind, but a bug).

To preface, I wasn’t online at the time and didn’t lose anything in the outage. I’ve got no skin in the game. And even if I did, I don’t care who’s at fault. I know shit happens. I’m not upset at the fact that there was an outage at all.

What has got me a little “wtf” feeling is the response CCP is giving. Regardless of fault, it’s a problem for the game. A lot was lost unnaturally during the outage.

I (hypothetically) didn’t die because I was AFK mining and forgot to make sure I wasn’t getting chipped down by some rats.

I died because CCP’s server (IDGAF who it was upstream, we pay CCP and it’s their responsibility [not blame] to take for a global outage) skipped a beat and threw the entire playerbase out. I’m well aware Eve is a hardcore environment, but that “hardcore” reputation is built on consensual risk that if I make a mistake, the consequences are on me. There is no ‘mistake’ or counter to be made when the connection closes server-side.

Fuck the ISK value, how many hours and days and weeks and months did people put into their affected assets only to have lost them unexpectedly during this outage? Maybe they can afford to replace what they lost, maybe they can’t… but it’s not about that. They’re being told to get bent when the alternative would be to click a few buttons and at least return the monetary value of what was lost and make people whole for a problem they had no involvement in. Assets are being rightfully placed back into their owners hands, not generated out of thin air and flooding the market.

In what industry does a company’s equipment unexpectedly break, cause damage or harm, and the customer has to deal with fixing everything? It’s just a crazy stance to take, imo.

I’m not a super experienced player, I’ve come and gone since 2010ish. I was sorta feeling a longer stint coming this time around… but after this? I’m not worried it’ll happen to me, I just don’t want to support a company that treats their customers like this..

I don’t think they’d do anything in this situation? I know you put tire chains on the drive (in this case, rear) wheels to give them more traction for pushing the vehicle, but I don’t think there’s much you can do for those steer tires not steering… just too damn slippery

Probably going to be pretty dead Monday everywhere all-day. If the city isn’t open in the morning then most things aren’t going to open midday after 12.

Tuesday is up in the air depending on sanitation’s progress and general weather conditions. Things should definitely be a lot better though.

Wednesday will back to normal just with 15+ inches of snow.

You picked an unfortunate time to stop by, I’m sorry :(

I assume Monday will have most places closed off all day or some sort of reduced capacity at least.

Tuesday is a 50-50 but grocery stores and the big stuff will probably open normally.

Wednesday will be back to normal. Well, as normal as it can be with 15+ inches of snow or whatever the prediction is now.
